I just attempted this hike this past May long weekend on a four day backpack. I would say do not try to go to lake of the falls until later in the season! We hiked about half of the day from the fork between lake of the falls and landslide, and we encountered a couple feet of snow covering a deep Creek that will go over and into your boots. We tried to go up and around the side of the mountain instead of near the water but that ended up leaving us much too high and very late in the day. we ended up turning back and making camp near the fork. Take caution on the trail this early and don't take unnecessary risks.
Go to landslide instead! it's a much nicer, shorter and better marked path.

I just did this hike this past May long weekend. After attempting lake of the falls and turning back, we hiked this fork of the trail up to the lake, it took about 3 hours up from the fork and about half that going down. There is snow but not too deep and the lake is still mostly frozen but beautiful. I would recommend this trail, it's a steady accend but not too long.

Great day hike! It’s pretty much straight up the whole way. Loose rocks towards the top. Good footwear and hiking poles are a good idea. Great views from the top!

Trail to the first falls is well maintained. Falls are gorgeous. The trail to the second and third falls is narrower but simple to navigate. Just before the third falls the trail is completely washed away and to return to the path you have to go down and up a steep embankment.

The trailhead begins at the creek north of the highway bridge. The trail was tough to find at first, and is quite washed out, but there are red and orange flags tied to trees (and deadfall) to help guide the way. The falls are small but are quite pretty, and it is a peaceful hike. Would do again and I enjoyed it.

Great hike. I take the slopes off to the right of the main trail. Much more enjoyable. Rated Hard but I find it a more Moderate hike. Lots of places to explore off trail.

Did this trail today and it was incredible! Top 2/3rds was covered in 1-3 feet of snow but previous footprints make it doable. Worth every step of this straight up climb! Gorgeous views!

A fun trail, we just hiked it yesterday (April 21), there was still a lot of snow.

Always love stopping in and exploring a little more. Dog liked it but would have enjoyed it more if he was off leash

First backcountry backpack trip, and let me tell you. There’s an absolutely stunning lake and view from the top. BUT if you aren’t an experience backpacker, this isn’t the first place you should be going. With overpacked bags, took my group and I about 3.5-4 hours to get to the lake and about 2 hour decent. There were points where anxiety would set in just thinking about having to go back down. Sweet place but don’t recommend unless you have SOME experience in hiking and packing for such trips. I will be doing it again this summer (2018) but will pack my sack completely different! Hope this helps someone!!!!

P.S.: no canned food and no “what if” items.

Nice easy hike with pretty views

My boyfriend, dog, and I really enjoyed this hike! I highly suggest keeping your dog on a leash and harness at ALL TIMES. There are marmots along the edge of the cliff just past the river that enjoyed taunting our dog and some areas where you are walking on the edge of a
100 ft+ cliff drop. This trail has very light traffic on the week days, be sure you have everything you need before starting your exploring.

Overall the trail was easy with a couple challenging steep areas with loose dirt and rock. Take mind on the way down: there are a couple points where the trail splits. We accidentally took a right where we should have gone left which led us down a very steep trail that at first looked well travelled, but came to an abrupt dead end. Keeping a steady pace with a few water/snack breaks, we completed the trail in 5.5 hours (including the time from back-tracking from heading down the wrong trail).

We did this trail in January. Microspikes were needed for sure. The views made the steep climb well worth it.

I love this hike in the summer so I decided to try it in the winter and it was wonderful! It was challenging in spots but it was fine! Due to all the snow I took a wrong turn and couldn’t find the lakes. However, I did manage to scale my way up to the summit which was amazing! And the snow made it a lot of FUN for me and my pup to slide back on down!

An easy hike and fun hike to do to get out and hike during the winter months!

Highly recommend giving this hike a chance in the winter hikes as well! It was still easy and my pup loved it! It is gorgeous and it is peaceful! And who doesn’t love frozen Waterfalls?

If your are courageous, continue on the ridge ! So much fun :)

I’ve done this hike a few times now. He most recent was Jan,3,2018 there wasn’t to much snow at all! Crampons would be a good thing to have and some polls. It’s a hard trail but definitely a god day hike it take about 4 hours in and out!

Beautiful hike and the cave above is quite spectacular to see inside!

This trail earned its status as being HARD.
10/10 would recommend for the views though. Please be in shape & stretch out those hammies. May the odds be ever in your favour.

Went here may long weekend with friends... this was the second time I’ve done this trail. I did it in July a few years back and it snowed on us. This time in may the lake was still frozen. Amazing hike and great views with camping areas. The trail is steep in areas but well worth the challenge.

Completed this amazing trail August long weekend 2017. The hike in is challenging, it is a long, pretty steady incline over the 16km. Most of the trail was in excellent condition. There were a few areas that had been washed out but we found them to be relatively well marked (not sure why others had trouble?). It took us 8 hours to get in with a few breaks and a lunch stop. Getting out was a breeze - under 5 hours (with 35 pound packs). Definitely bring a fishing rod, the lake has incredible fishing.
I wouldn't rate this trail hard but it's definitely intermediate. Also details say no dogs but that is not true.
I don't generally do the same hike twice, but I'll be back to do this one again.

One of our favorite lakes to go to. Did the small 2.5 km trail as there is a geo cache there we wanted to find. Great trails, was a few downed tree's but nothing that we couldn't get around.

Decent trail for a quick walk. It's nothing spectacular. The trail on the north side of the lake has a lot of roots but is still in decent shape.

The scenery was amazing and the trail easy to follow, the name says it all but worth the effort!

Nice trail all the way to the lake. Took just over an hour at a good pace. Pretty tough trek up to the peak with loose shale all the way up. Not recommended for beginners. Just under an hour to highway, would do again!
