Missed the turn off that heads up the hill so spent a lot of time bushwhacking. Great views but footing coming down was loose and slippery and very steep. Would not recommend it for children or those prone to vertigo. You need to be in pretty good physical shape. Fun if you’re comfortable with a challenge.

Great hike! We did it in the middle of winter and it was fairly slippery. We slid down on our bums the whole way back and it made for some amazing memories ;)

This is on my list of hikes to repeat

We got a bit lost but there is a nice variety of forest and views of the river from high up. Could hear cows along the way too!

The views are good, the trail is not marked very well, we got lost

The majority of the trail is a gravel road to the natural gas plants on moose mountain, which isn’t the greatest for mountain scenery. Once you come to the end of the road, the trail up to the caves starts of well marked but sort of disappears and it becomes a bit of a scramble on loose scree up to the caves.

The caves themselves were pretty cool and very accessible. We didn’t go to the end to see the ice (we chickened out) but the cave was nice and tall and never felt claustrophobic. Bring a headlight and warm clothes as it is noticeably colder in the caves than outside.

If I were to do this trail again I would bike to the cave trailhead and would not recommend bringing your dog for this one.

Great views. Well maintained trail. NOT difficult - I would rate this as EASY. It's a walk, really.

Alder Trail Loop and Banded Peak Trail: This hike surprised me as it is so close to a Bragg Creek and a local school. I was expecting an overrun trail with little or no real substance. Instead, this easy hike had lots to offer a family with young children including: educational trail signs, wildlife, a small pond with a dock, and lots of sitting areas. The entire hike, that included both portions took a couple of hours. That was taking our time to enjoy all that the trails had to offer.

Great hike
I think it’s easier if you start to the left at the trail head, steeper climb but easier than walking down it!

My go-to for a quick but rewarding trip if you have limited time.

By horseback this is a great trail, lots of changes in terrain and amazing views. We came across a few bikes, but it's a longer trip so often we're alone on the trails.

Great hike through mostly trees and a great creek. All signage good even if one for Praire Link was written with a marker.
I was hoping for a link to Prairie Mountain but didn't see one. Guess I'll have to go back to get Prairie ⛰ done.

good one to do this afternoon with my dog (hot day) as the path is the shade (treed) most of the way. we missed the trail head so had to back track a little. parked on the left near the powderface sign, hence missed the start as no signage of when to take the path to the left... its open and straight up! will do again, but when it's less smoky so can enjoy the view at top.

Super easy trail.

Did this hike today 3 September 2018. Conveniently only an hour from Calgary. As others have said, you will drive past the trail head and park on your left in the little parking lot. Then you cross Highway 66 and walk towards your right, passing at least one other trail before you get to this one.

Arrived just after a heavy morning rain so there were not many people on the trail. A lot of the hike is through forest, emerging from time to time in the open air and then to a kind of open field at the top. No scrambling or scree towards the top just a pretty easy walk up to a beautiful view and a rock cairn with a flag planted in it. There was light snow on the ground in the trees starting at about halfway up the hill. There are some steep sections on the way up to test your cardio, but not too strenuous. I enjoyed walking through the forest parts but from the comments below I gather that is not for everyone. All in all I thought it was a great hike. Would do it again

Great hike. Peaceful at the top. I didn’t find it difficult to find the start of the trail. It’s just pass the bridge about 2-3 mins on right hand side.

Good, low commitment, easy to access hike. You certainly gain a lot of elevation in a hort amount of time so it's a glute burner.

Few viewpoints on the way up but it's mostly covered. The top ridgewalk is neat and definitely provides excellent views.

Relatively busy at this time of year. Quite a few people out there.

Great hike for our 8 and 12 year old! Didn’t enjoy walking the service road to get to trailhead but found a path that meandered through trees on the way back.

This hike is a great one to warm up for the hiking season and gives beautiful 360 views at the summit.

This is a great short hike that awards beautiful views at the end.

great hike. turned around at moose mountain road.

Great work out hike, the flag at the summit is the best part of the hike for me.

My buddy and I did this hike for sunrise today. Left the parking lot at about 5:30 and hit the peak just before 7. A nice gradual climb the whole way up, not much of a view going up but well worth it once you get the sweet panorama view at the top.

Directions to get you started;
Once parked at elbow river falls parking lot, cross the highway.
You will see a white post just to the right side of the trail. Head up there about 50 meters.
You will then hit a T in the trail, turn right, After walking the trail for another few minutes you will hit another T, turn left and you're on your way!

Careful going down. Steep.

Great leisurely trail. Beautiful river views throughout, with pockets of peak views as well. We didn’t see anyone until we were headed off the trail, around noon. I could see weekends being a lot more busier.

Nice quick hike. We went counter clockwise as per a recommendation. A few hills towards the end but nothing difficult. We completed the loop with 2 adults, 2 kids and a dog in about 1:20.

Tough for beginners straight up bring walking poles . Fun .and the 360 degree view on the top is spectacular

Great i will do again with my friend. i saw lots of

This was only my third hike and found it challenging. My son and I did this on August 25th, 2018. Was proud to make it to the flags. Thought that was the worst of it but didn't realize how hard it would be to come back down. Three days later I am still a bit sore. It is a great work out.
The day was a bit smoky but still had a great view.

love this trail easy for the kids and such nice views
