Easy loop with a beautiful view over the lake.

The beautiful colors of the lake really look gorgeous

Really easy, and a decent walk through the forest. Other than the canyon, there’s not too much that’s unique. If you’re short on time, this hike is good to do quickly. Lots of bear activity around the area though, so be aware of trail restrictions (groups of 4+ and bear spray mandatory).

Easy. Nice views.

Rated as moderated but would definitely say it’s “easy”. Done this a couple times, and both times were fairly busy with horses and ATV’s. It’s an easy trail walk into the lake. Good to do with kids or the family!

A great one to do with kids-ages 4 and up. We did this on a clear fall day. It was a lovely way to spend the day!

Fairly easy hike, beautiful clear lake. Is pretty muddy after rain for a while, lots of horse tours through.

The trail is pretty rocky part of it is in a dry creek bed, but a nice walk all in all. Eagle Lake is beautiful and just beyond it is James Falls a nice small waterfall that’s worth the extra little walk

Easy hike that’s mostly flat. I’d say once you hit the bridge that’s mostly it. Better hikes to do in Banff.

I would say this was the most difficult hike I did on my trip to Jasper/Banff but was also so worth it. Definitely go past the lookout and make it up to the pass, your calves will hurt but the views will be worth it. We hiked this in May 2016, before full summer peak season and there wasn't many hikers once we got to the end so definitely be making noise.

The first half of the trail was scenic with glimpses of the lake through the trees. However I would recommend doing this part by mountain bike. The hiking got a bit tedious but would be enjoyable on a bike. After the 2nd wood bridge the elevation climb began. Take it at a steady pace and you'll be fine. The view from the lookout point was amazing, but a little windy.
The trail was very well marked and maintained. There was very little mud from the previous days rain. I saw 2 mosquitoes and the bugs weren't much of a bother. I only had to navigate over or around a few logs that fell on the trail.

Fun trail to bike. Only went 13km total out and back. Amazing views of the lake and mountains

Did this first weekend of June. Hiked to LM9 and set up camp then backtracked and went up to the lookout. Steady uphill climb but manageable. Great views from the top of the lake. Windy. We camped overnight at LM9. The lake was beautiful and tranquil in the morning. Hiked out the next day.

Did this hike today. It was beautiful. We first climb up till the end of the aylmer pass trail. A climbing path trough forest that opens up in a field where you are surrounded by mountains. We walk a bit further trough the field to see all the different kinds and shapes of mountains. On the way back we did the look out which can't be missed. It took us the whole day, 10 hours and we where pretty tired but totally worth it. No bears but we've been singing songs, clapping and yelling all trip (3 people)

Beautiful trail
Grizzly warnings and trail restrictions starting July 2018 (4 people per group min and bear spray)
Lovely trail though. Went myself, no issues.

Nice trail. Wonderful sights. The beginning is quite crowded but the crowds disappear further down the road and you can enjoy the views. We had to turn back because we were warned by the growl of a bear (probably a mother with cubs that was spotted earlier). We didn’t see the animal but it was close enough to change our mind. Hike safe and bring bear spray!

Loved it! Definitely would go back and try go further. Make a longer day of it!

I went about 11 kilometers and came back. The scenery was beautiful enough to get there, and I was afraid of a bear. Even though I had a Bear spray. You can go down to the river and take a picture. It was cloudy then clear again. The trail itself is easy.

We did it today..first 5-6 km was easy but next 5-6 to lookout was really hard for me..its around 600-700m elevation from the bottom to the lookout..it took us almost 8h with 45min-1h brake on lookut..we saw one bear family..they were maybe 10 meter from us but we were loud and we had bear spray nothing happend..they just left..this hike worth that view when you reach the top..

This is a pretty easy, short and sweet trail to hike. We did this hike on our first day into Banff after driving around Lake Minnewaka. We didn’t get into the park until about 3:00 so it was a nice trail to end our day of travel with. There is a great view of the canyon from a bridge on the trail.

Went July 2017. It was nice to combine swimming and walking (can’t really call it a hike) on a very hot day with a bunch of kids in tow. I enjoyed watching the paddle boarders and kayakers with the mountain backdrop.

Loved this hike!! It’s long, beautiful and very rewarding. The last 5k are pretty steep and testing but well worth it when you get to the lookout.
As a casual hiker, my only advice would be not to give up on that last leg!

Head out early or later on a hot sunny day, mid day on the trail it’s hot, little shade. The little river is nice to catch a cool breeze, but it disappears for a stretch. Nice bike trail! Ends at the Bridge over the river and there is camping for over night hikers.

Great views of Minnewanka for majority of the hike - it's at lot of kms but not technically hard. We did it in about 7 hours with a long break.. trail was in good condition, had to "move" the big horn sheep off the trail with loud noises.. no berrys or signs of bears yet....

No snow no mud. The lookout was beautiful. It was relatively an easy.

Very nice trail, good views of the lake at various points. One icy stretch but otherwise easy to traverse.

Nice sunset walk just before dinner, a great way to close the day after long hiking elsewhere. Practical if you are staying at the campsite closeby. However, I wouldn't make a detour for it.
