Was following people, not the map and missed the usual way up but didn’t feel I missed out. In autumn hills are dry so not the green of spring, but still lovely to see the lakes.

One of our favorite hikes we’ve ever done. We got to the chairlift right when it opened (runs 9am-5:30) and only saw a few other groups on this hike. You start out with an uphill climb but then there are lots of areas that are quite flat. The lakes are absolutely stunning. The view where you can see three of them at different heights feels otherworldly! In October, it was chilly but sunny so layers are best and good hiking boots are required as there were wet and snowy parts. Keep in mind there are a few ways to do this and easy places to head back to the chairlift if you don’t want to tackle all 7!

Very nice trail. Well marked. It took us almost 5 hours, not the 3 to 4 they say is common, but we are seniors and move slowly. The footing is rocky and challenging in places-- poles recommended.

Wonderful hike. The views are magnificent. Take the chairlift up from the parking lot. It is definitely a challenging hike but well worth it. The first five lakes are less challenging than the hike to the other two. The weather varied a lot (went in September) so be prepared. There were a decent amount of other people on the trail.

Probably medium difficulty. Some parts washed away. Somewhat steep. Beautiful trees. Lots of shade.

Just exploring a trail that is above Dragalevski monastery. Not terribly steep. Quite rocky, so hiking boots a good idea. Very shady. The dog loved it. Looks like there are wild strawberries.

We did the out and back peak instead of the full loop. Very tough trail with a bunch of vertical. Last half mile before the summit is a lot of good scrambling. Well marked with red and white striped markers throughout the trail. Lots of people climbing it at the end of August and a bit chilly at the top.

Difficult hike, but worth it! Recommended for good hikers. The road accessing vikhren hut is closed from 9am until 4pm so if you arrive in between, you have to add a 2km walk to join the hut. Starting from the hut, we chose to do the tour from the west side, giving a continuous climb (quite hard). Juste after the peak, we had then a big descent with chains to securize your path. The last part of the hike is then less difficult. The other way is also possible, you will just begin The hike is feasible in 6-7 hours. Enjoy! Bonus : when you go down the road, the restaurant near the "do not enter" sign will be of great recomfort!

Very beautiful lakes and surrounding area. I suggest not to go on weekends, because it might be too crowded for a peaceful hike.

Wait what? the peak on this trail is Polovrak and its not in Samokov.

Very scenic hike. Steep in the beginning, towards the 7th lake, and on the descent back down. In between there are easier parts. If it rained recently, expect mud on the way down. You must either take the ski lift up (12LV one way) or hike up an additional 1700FT~ from the parking lot below. We hiked down to the lift, and it took about 50 minutes. The road is particularly rocky and steep in the beginning but evens out.

Good weather allowed a quick loop out and back in three hours. Allow an extra hour for up and down from the carpark by chairlift. Amazing views, quite busy with walkers of all as fes and abilities. A little confused with the trail directions on the return to the chairlift - I'm glad to say I wasnt the only one.

A lovely well shaded hike along a rushing stream with many small waterfalls culminating in a big one at the end. Plenty of wildflowers in June.

Great hike and beautiful scenery. The climb to the 7th lake is very steep with much exposure. The summit above lake 7 is not "moderate". The rest of the trail is moderate.

A fun trip through field and forest with easy terrain and lots to explore for kids. Along our way we encountered a heard of sheep crossing our path, horses, and sheep dogs. The Monistary was a worthy destination and a great experience for the kids.

This is a good option for families with small kids. The trail is very short, but it is interesting and the waterfall is a worthy destination. We explored the village a bit after we finished the trail to extend the hike.

Highly recommend

I did this from the Aleko Hut which is easily accessible by the chairlift or bus 66 on the weekend. The climb from the Dragalevski bus stop (bus 93) was tracked separately. Makes for a superb day of climbing. I read somewhere Cherni Vrah (Черни Врьх) is the second windiest peak in Bulgaria. It is windy, I was almost blown over stopping for a drink of water and standing upright. And headwind on the uphill! Took a short cut down to the chairlift at the recommendation of a Bulgarian friend I made Alex. Fantastic day out and so close to the city!
