Linz, Upper Austria, AustriaLength: 6.0 mi • Est. 3 h 1 m
With lines 1 or 2 from the main square to the "Harbachsiedlung" stop. Cross Leonfeldner Strasse and turn left at the Auer buffet into the street "Am Alten Feldweg". At the end, turn left into Harbachpark (giant swing). Follow the forest path uphill to Pachmayrstraße. Cross this and follow the Kühreiterweg diagonally opposite to the Gasthof Waldschänke. The Kühreiterweg is the only access road (traffic). The road mostly winds through the shady forest. In the Waldschänke, it is worth taking a break in the natural garden. The descent through the forest begins past the game reserve, at the beginning of which you pass several waterfalls. The path leads to Gründbergstrasse. You walk along the Höllmühlbach to the corner of Gründbergstraße / Ackerlweg. Possibility to climb to the Giselawarte am Lichtenberg (926 m, walking time approx. 3 hours). Follow the steadily rising Ackerlweg (allotment gardens Gründberg) to the left to Klausenweg (corner of Höllmühlstraße). Continue downhill on Klausenweg, the road becomes steeper and narrower towards the end (traffic). You now come to Leonfeldner Strasse - you can return from the "Winklerbrücke" stop by bus no. 38 to Rudolfstrasse (near Nibelungenbrücke). Cross Leonfeldner Straße, along Marienberg and Magdalenastraße you get to the beginning of the horse-drawn promenade at the Gasthof Oberwirt. Note the plaque on the horse-drawn train on the wall of the church square (in front of the entrance to the Church of St. Magdalena). You are now on the horse-drawn railway path. One of the last remaining rail sections can be seen at the beginning of the main forest. This is also where the first 900 m long bird trail in Linz begins, which offers an insight into the local bird life on the basis of display boards. The path leads into a narrow path, at the end of which you turn right into the dirt road. Tip for friends of the horse-drawn railway: If you go a few meters to the left in the direction of Schatzweg, you will find an overview board with the course of the horse-drawn railway route from Bujanov (Czech Republic) to St. Magdalena. Through the forest you reach Altenberger Straße. Stroll through the area of the Johannes Kepler University, take a look into the inner courtyard of Auhof Palace. At the end of the park you come to the "Auhof" stop, lines 1 or 2 will bring you back to the main square.
