A rewarding three-thousand-meter peak with wonderful views of the wide Grießkogel. In some places easy climbing units are required, which is why this hike is only for experienced mountaineers.Show more

The Pleisenspitze is a popular tour destination in winter as well as summer, as it is the only peak in the Karwendel main chain that can be easily reached in winter. The fact that the cozy Pleisenhütte is open on weekends all year round also contributes to the popularity of the tour. The winter ascent is just as attractive for snowshoers as it is for skiers. The ascent to the summit in high snow conditions is generally not recommended on foot. On nice days, the snow softens a lot in the sun, and there are often treacherous cavities between the snow-covered mountain pines that you can break deep into. The terrain is mostly moderately steep (short slopes up to around 30 degrees) and easy to walk with snowshoes. The climb follows the summer path. As the tour is frequented, you will usually find numerous traces. The forest path can be followed to the hut and the summit climb can be seen from the hut. There are several options from the hut to the rear Pleisengrat. A rock ledge blocks access at approx. 1900 m. This bar is usually bypassed on the left. But you can also cross under the bar to the east and then reach your back in a northerly direction over beautiful terrain with small hollows and crests. This also avoids the somewhat steeper western slope (around 30 degrees), this variant should therefore be somewhat more avalanche-proof. Depending on the avalanche situation, these slopes require caution.Show more
