Great trip if you are on a river cruise with a stopover in Dürnstein. This hike conquers a few meters of altitude over a short distance, but accordingly offers great views. The cultural-historical highlight is the castle ruins, in which King Richard the Lionheart was locked up by crusades after his return. Here you can explore the legends and stories about Lionheart and Robin Hood. Signs along the route hold some exciting information.Show more

On the Zauberberg, you can either walk up to the Liechtenstein House or take the Zauberberg cable car - which of course can also be taken on the way back down to the valley. From the mountain station, you then head from the Hirschenkogel to the Sonnenwendstein at lofty heights, even though the sun loungers at the Liechtensteinhaus invite you to linger.Show more

There are a number of ways to get to Klosterwappen (the Schneeberg summit) at 2,076m, which is the highest peak in Lower Austria (about two hours by train from Austria). As well as walking from Puchberg am Schneeberg to the summit, there is a rack-and-pinion railway (the Schneeberg Railway) which goes to a height of 1,800m, and a chairlift which up to 1,210m. The most popular route is from the summit station of the cog railway, while the hardest route is from the Edelweiss Hut (near top of chairlift, accessed via Losenheim). Show more
