Beautiful local walk

Great circuit around the city! Southbank to Docklands could get packed and dodging tourists is a big test of patience.

there is a good booklet for the walk for about A$15 that you can buy in Apollo Bay which shows the low tide options if you want to explore some of the beaches and rock platforms. Most of this walk is fantastic but there are a couple of boring bits too that go inland on dirt roads. Great that you see so few people until you get close to The 12 Apostles. If you don't want to camp there is a local company called Walk91 who will transport you off and on the track. Would recommend 6 days but we did it in 5 days. It is very doable in 5 days but felt that there wasn't enough time to explore on two days or rest over lunch.

Very hard and requires navigation skills. We failed to get to the Falls and had to bushbash our way out. Experience in route finding and map reading is very necessary.

on MacKenzie Falls

Lovely waterfall with lots of water following from it even in summer. As walking down to the falls it is abit of a heat trap. Also very busy so I would head here early to miss the crowds

Good walk. Not many people around.

Generally a really good trail. However, there are a few spots where b the two doors not seem to be well marked so it's easy to miss turn offs.
If going in a clockwise direction from the city, ..
Don't miss the turn across Footscray Rd St the lights immediately after Costco.
I completely missed the turnoff from The Moonee Ponds Creek trail to get across Flemington Rd into Royal Park. If you do then use the underpass under Mount Alexander Rd and U-turn to get on to the north side of Mt Alexander / Flemington Rds. Ride along Flemington Rd and turn left at the tram line which is the park.
Look out for the underpass at Rushall Station. If you miss it turn right on to the Merri Creek Trail and you'll get back to the Capital City Trail.
Once on the Yarra River Trail people on hand cycles or with buggies need to look out for the stairs. Not sure how to get around them though.
After that it's plain going.
With those small quibbles fixed, it is definitely a 5 star rating.
With the knowledge I have now I'll do it again for sure.

This is part of the Capital City trail and can be extended for as long as you'd like to go, before actually completing the whole Cap City trail. Or, you can continue for approximately 6 more km to the Yarra bend park, and then route around the park before returning on the other side of the Yarra river;

Trail is flat and mostly paved. Lots of bike riders, some runners and walkers (like me). Most of the trail is buffered by the river on one side and a narrow strip of bush and woods on the other side. Otherwise, its in an urban setting.

Great scenery and most of the campsites are quite nice.

Excellent walk, lots of river crossing, small birds and lizards. Wear your hiking boots for this one as its steep and the river crossings can get a bit deep.

We did the 100km in 2 days for charity. It includes some really lovely views especially on the first 20-30km. Some beautiful scenic bays to stop if you have the time! Would highly recommend, but maybe over a few more days if you have the time!

Excellent hike river was high and dirty from the rain the day before but still fun and challenging.

Great track with lush green forrest , man made timber bridge crossings waterfalls along a picturesque river. Timing is everything, 5km in & we were forced to turn back after 4 river crossings.
Well sign posted, however none to warn of river crossings.
Would have been a much more fulfilling 5star hike had we been able to complete it!

Not bad, went after heavy rain so it was a bit muddy. A few.parts have been closed due to flood damage but can be easily navigated around.
Nice to have some rougher terrain within the city and would be great for trail running on a warmer day.

This recording is a shorter version of the Barwon River loop listed. The great thing about this track is that there are many points where you can cross the river to lengthen or shorten the walk. A great walk for kids with bikes as well as anyone with a pram.

my most favourite trail in the west, begins near Footscray and you can climb up to Essendon for a great view before finishing near Sunshine North

great place for hiking and fresh air. do it again.

An excellent ride; but have seen several brown snakes one of which I ran over accidentally. It just slithered away hopefully no harm done.
