Unbelievable hike! Took us 7 nights and 8 days starting in melaleuca and ending at cockle creek. We got very lucky with weather and because of that we lucked out with some wildlife, like the spotted tailed quoll and most of the endemic birds! The days over the passes are pretty tough though so be ready for a challenge. I would recommend camping as close as you can to the base of the iron range before going over (Louisa River). Would highly recommend this hike to people who want remote wilderness and some unbelievable beaches along the way.

Very poorly marked. Done the Split Rock Track and was very keen to continue on to the falls. Didn't realize we had to go back and follow a different trail to do so. Followed the red arrows for 2 hours and ended up in a massive expanse of rock with a random red arrow pointing ahead and no other ones to follow. Turned around and came back too exhausted to continue to the falls where we should have turned. Hard and challenging hike and even though we never got to our destination we would definitely come back and try again. Do recommend reading your map well beforehand

Incredible hike! Great challenge and worth every bit

Beautiful in winter

The track was really beautiful, very long and slightly overgrown in parts. Watch out for leeches as it’s a very damp area.

Beautiful easy family friendly trail.

Check your weather forecast before doing this trail! Very important because you'll be scaling rocks along the river and you don't want to be stuck. Some parts of the trail are quite challenging with big rocks to scale. Good grip footwear is essential. Very fun when it ends with the waterhole for a nice cool dip after your 3+ hours of hiking!

One of my favourite walks so beautiful when it is snowing really like a winter wonderland

Loved it

This walk is much harder than it sounds on paper. It is very rocky for almost the whole walk and some steep rocky climbs. It is also poorly marked and very often you need to retrace your steps to find the correct way. Having said that you do get spectacular views of the surrounding escarpments and the falls themselves are very impressive.

This walk is well worth the effort with the return trip along the gorge back to the beginning. The gorge adds a little more complexity but is worth the effort. It is rock hopping all the way but the pools offer a welcome relief. The round trip took a leisurely 3.5hrs. I would suggest taking lunch and making a day of it.

Well beaten track with some board walk but for the most part is either dry dirt or very muddy. Very remote with weather that can change hourly. Amazing beaches and the ability to dip your bottle and drink directly from thousands of water sources. Prion beach is very cool and crossing the river is a unique experience. One of my favourite hikes!
