Explore the most popular kid friendly trails in Tasmania with hand-curated trail maps and driving directions as well as detailed reviews and photos from hikers, campers and nature lovers like you.

Breathtaking walk with plenty of small tracks around the lake with great spots for photos, and taking in the views. Some stair sections which all kids could easily navigate, we took our 4, 6 and 8 year olds kids who loved it. Rainforests, plenty of changes in vegetation and spotted an echidna today too.

Very poorly marked. Done the Split Rock Track and was very keen to continue on to the falls. Didn't realize we had to go back and follow a different trail to do so. Followed the red arrows for 2 hours and ended up in a massive expanse of rock with a random red arrow pointing ahead and no other ones to follow. Turned around and came back too exhausted to continue to the falls where we should have turned. Hard and challenging hike and even though we never got to our destination we would definitely come back and try again. Do recommend reading your map well beforehand

easy traileri, not much of a fall

not for kids.

Great view. Not a ‘casual’ stroll as some found to their detriment. Dress for sweating as the stair climb is a workout even for the fittest people.

Husband says best coastline views he’s ever seen. A really beautiful walk. I’d suggest long pants or gaiters for walking through the low scrub.

Challenging walk. but well worth it.

A nice track to walk...can be steep steps in sections..take plenty of water on hot days. Amazing view when at the lookout.

Family friendly, nice and flat with best waterfall in tas.

Crescent Bay is 1 of the most beautiful beaches in Tasmania. The sand dunes are HUUUUGE (take a bodyboard for some serious fun)
I wouldn’t recommend swimming at this beach as it’s unpatrolled & has some very strong currents with some steep drop offs.
Great fishing!!
The walk to Mt Brown is fairly easy, & you’re rewarded with some of the most stunning views of the Tasman Peninsula :)
If you have a spare hour, make your way along to the Maingon blowhole. But be careful as it’s not fenced & theres no warning it’s coming up but you can hear the roar of it 100mtrs away :) Keep a close eye on your little ones :)
Most of all.... enjoy :)

on Dove Lake Circuit

Lovely hike around the lake with my different plant ecosystems as you walk around. There are few nice beach areas which are good for breaks. The path is along a broad walk and super easy to follow. The times given for the walks are quite generous and don’t take that long. Toilets at trailhead. Was pretty busy on 26th December but still had some peace and quite.

One of my favourite walks so beautiful when it is snowing really like a winter wonderland

Loved it

Mostly boardwalk trail through rainforest around Dove Lake with good views of Cradle Mountain

The path wasn’t easy to find. It’s not marked as the Mount Nelson track. Had to follow Signal Station. Especially the beginning just worked with the GPS. The trail itself is nice, but until the top no nice views. Lots of dead trees. Saw plenty green parrots. The view on top of the mountain is nice. I took the Truganini Trail down the hill. It’s maintained but more natural.

At the start it is an urban walk, then a park walk leading to a trail along a creek. Several cross paths led to some incorrect trail choices. Hang in there past Churchill Ave and the trail becomes steeper and more fun. Great views from the top.

This walk is much harder than it sounds on paper. It is very rocky for almost the whole walk and some steep rocky climbs. It is also poorly marked and very often you need to retrace your steps to find the correct way. Having said that you do get spectacular views of the surrounding escarpments and the falls themselves are very impressive.

An absolutely stunning coastal cave.

Overcrowded both at the lookout and on the beach. Absolute tourist trap! Nicer beaches to be found elsewhere without the traffic...
