The Great North Walk connects New South Wales' two largest cities from the obelisk in Australia's first planned town square to the wharf from which its oldest home-built steamship still sails in over 250 kilometres of history, mystery and fascination. This is the 10th, and final section, of the great North Walk, to see the list of sections or the full trail go here: This section starts at Teralba train station and continues towards the coast, then travels along it to Newcastle. It passes by Speers Point along the shore of Lake Macquarie to Warners Bay, crosses Five Islands Bridge, it then passes through more suburban landscapes before entering Glenrock State Conservation Area, then along the coast via a series of beaches. At the end the Newcastle Obelisk and Bogey Hole are must-see. This is the last stage of the Thru Hike. It is normally a two-day walk staying at designated campsites. Booking is required for most sites and you plan to stay at a Crown Land campground you need to fill out the reservation form: It can be done in either direction, but the classic way is from South to North. The trail is broken into parts so that both ends are easily accessible by public transport, the start and endpoints of this section are at Train stations. Most of all enjoy Australia's social history and natural environment on a bush-hike that is accessible to virtually everyone. Show more
