The Byron Bay lighthouse is a must-see if you're in the region, as is the walk down to Wategos Beach. While the lighthouse area will get crowded for sunset, mostly friendly backpackers, not many take the track down to the beach.

The trail is popular for locals training in the morning, often parking at Wategos and running up and back. But any time of the day is beautiful.

One small suggestion if hitting the lighthouse first is to park in either in the lower lighthouse carpark (on the way up, before the first boom gate - which they lock at night), or on the way down (when then one way road goes down, there's another and less full car park a little ways along). From either it only adds five to ten minutes walk and saves hassle with gates being locked.

Sunset at the end of the trail is beautiful, but likewise sunrise is special. Often photographers stake out this spot, as dolphins nearly always been be spotted in the region playing, and this is the most easterly point of the Australian mainland after all. Enjoy.

Marvellous view!

Track well maintained with nice work on the bike trail part of the walk. Not overly strenuous with it taking just over 2 hours to do the walk

Beautiful views down side trail

Super nice walk with beautiful scenery

Great walk but lots of traffic on the trail. Stairs towards Bondi should be carefully navigated if running.

What a beautiful walk. The trail is well marked and clean.

Honestly one of the prettiest hikes. I completed with a 4 hour hike in day one and a 5 hour hike day 2 (with the excursion to the figure 8 pools, which is totally awesome!!). Would definitely recommend it although there is a lot of elevation change.

nice place to go and thank you for the beautiful photos

coastal track with scenic views. Got to watch ferrys go past at Dobroyd Head.

Amazing views. Hardest part of the walk is the first 20 minutes across the beach and up the first cliff. After that, its fairly flat.

Nice view

Wide, well serviced fire trail. Beautiful scenery, big downhill then a long painful climb on the return loop.

A nice walk. Went from Otford to Bundeena over two days. I clocked this walk closer to 34k so make allowances. As you travel through the boards indicating distance constantly change.

from North Era you can walk around the rocks you don't have to go over the ridge if tides permit. That would have saved plenty of effort.

nice relaxed walk paved all the way. It's not 14k though it's 18k e2e.

Nice walk some signage lacking. fair bitof road action but OK.

Short track but stunning view plus nice spots for picnic or lunch(cave)
Good start for hiking from Wentworth Falls to Katomba .

excellent track

easy coastal walk with stunning views

One of the best lookout in whole NSW!!

Great running trail

Great walk along Newcastle’s most iconic beaches. All footpaths and always close to toilets, water or cafes. Great in sections with kids and family.

Love this track but the first easy part to Mermaid pools isn’t the best part. The 4km round trip through Tahmoor Gorge Track on top is pretty challenging and full of surprises. Really enjoyed this but do your research and take a lot of water. No phone reception and poor markers. Recommend hiking poles and vigilance for snakes, we saw A LOT! It’s an awesome track. Oh, and if you take your dog, you are going to have to lower him down some big rocks too big to jump down

Beautiful pool to swim in with a rope swing and rock jump
