A long but easy walk takes you to a lookout with some great views over Pittwater (the right fork): https://hikingtheworld.blog/2016/08/20/west-head/#Bairne

Or you can follow the Bairne Track to Soldiers Point (the left fork) and continue down a steep track to Coasters Retreat. From here, catch the ferry to the Basin to complete a circular walk: https://hikingtheworld.blog/2017/03/25/bairne-to-basin-circuit-west-head/

Definitely not a good walk choice if you want to avoid people... but a good choice on a warm day, as it's mostly shaded and passes by lots of bays and beaches.

This is one of my favourite walks in Sydney, with great views of the coast and a number of beautiful swimming beaches along the way. It can get fairly busy on weekends, especially at the Putty Beach end.

It’s just one of Sydney’s iconic walks with a bit of everything. Add on north head and it’s a good stroll. The views of the harbour are fantastic and you see lots of wildlife along the way, particularly water dragons.

The Figure 8 Pool has become incredibly popular and is one of the "most instagrammed" national park locations. I've picked a weekday for this walk to avoid the worst of the crowds, and the pool is not too busy when I get there. A nice walk with views over the coast, and the Figure 8 Pool and coast is beautiful. But avoid weekends!

Maitland Bay is one of my favourite hikes, and this circuit combines some of the best views in Bouddi National park with a swim at the beautiful Maitland Bay beach on the way back. Maitland Bay gets busier each year and the Coastal Track is quite popular, but you're unlikely to see anyone on the Bullimah Spur track.

A very beautiful beach - but expect a few people here in summer. The short walk to Governors Head is worth the effort, for some nice views. Hard to imagine this was the site of a proposed nuclear power station!

A pleasant and mostly shaded walk to a remote beach; you're unlikely to see many people at the beach. Surf was too rough to swim when we visited (but there was a coastal weather warning in place).

First off this is definitely doable in one day despite so many things I read that made it seem extremely difficult. Much of the trail is level and even on man made walkways in many spots. One if the most difficult portions was the detour to the Figure 8 pools, which for my money can be skipped.

What I will say is that if you start in Bundeena like I did because I was worried about catching the last ferry, be aware that the final 3-4 miles are all uphill. It's not terribly steep and there are steps for most of the way but after 13 miles it's tough enough. Also it's good to know that there's no ticket machine at the Otford station so make sure you have a full card or a ticket in advance.

Otherwise this is an incredible experience with some of the most beautiful coastlines and beaches you can ever hope to see. And it's not crowded in the slightest so at times you'll feel that you have it all to yourself.

Only did one way.. it’s ok but the path is on the street. The best part is the walk to the lighthouse

Beautiful trail with breathtaking views

super easy. if you walk on the sand (if the tide is right) on the bay side, then either take the stairs for a much faster way up and a better workout. alternatively there's the longer but easier path which gently winds up the hill. stunning views!

An enjoyable walk with some good views and a few different landscapes (beach, rainforest, bush). The hard rating is an overstatement, more a moderate walk. Saw a wild echidna next to one of the boardwalks.

I just went one way and it is possible to get a bus (385 I believe but check google maps) back to town. The bus isn’t very frequent though! Especially on Sunday’s and bank holidays. There’s one at 17:00. If not an Uber will cost 24 dollars back to the train station which has great links to central and Bondi Junction.

fantastic views coastal and mountains

This is a great trail for everyone it’s got everything to challenge lush forests to start with and coastal beaches. This is a great trail that I take friends from out of town on because it gives stunning views. Time your finish with a ferry ride back to Cronulla and a deserved beer and a feed.

The views are the best - from the ocean, to colorful buildings, old cemeteries, and beaches... There are so many rest areas along this nice long walk and the entire path is sandy, or paved or covered with wood. Would strongly recommend it!

one of my favorites.

A couple of epic views along the way (overlooking Shelly Beach and the city) but the walk itself was nothing special.

Beautiful walk with wonderful views. Quite a easy walk on footpaths, along the beach and on dirt trails. A bit of everything. You can even get a coffee or breaky along the way.

awesome walk. views, history, nature. perfect.

Good place for a jog.

It was a nice hike though the inland half of the loop
was kind of boring with just a muddy track in the bush but once you get to the more coastal side of the loop you start getting some nice views. I honestly would have preferred I did an out and back hike on the coastal half of the loop instead in hindsight. The hike also definitely should not be rated hard.

Great views and easy walking

The best short coastal walk in NSW. Whale watching, great views, wildlife, wild flowers.

Easy walk, not suitable for wheelchairs. Partially artificially built, always easy to follow. Can be very crowded, leave early morning for a better experience. Possibility to spot some parrots and whales during the season. Also great views on Sydney CBD.
My rating (0 to 5 max): views 4, natural environment 3, exposure 1, difficulty 1, length 1.
