Amazing views!

Great warmup trail for the others in the city of el Chalten. Phenomenal distant view of Fitzroy and cerro Torre as the clouds roll in

A little muddy in spots. A few short, moderate hills. The variations are each quite different, so I’d recommend trying them all out. There was a wall of clouds starting at Cerro Torre, so we couldn’t see it at all. Still, the glacial lake made it worth the effort.

I took a transport from Ushuaia to Lapatia Bay and walked to the Alakush visitor center where this hike starts. It should be noted that the map of the park labels this hike as Hito XXIV. You spend the majority of the time around the lake and in and out of the forest. If you feel like you’ve wandered into a creek, I learned that the horse droppings are actually a good marker for where to go next. The views and the trail are unlike any I’ve ever done. Highly recommend this.

Perfect half-day hike. Going up can be a bit steep but overall do-able for any average hiker. Great view at the top on the dam and base camp. There is a possibility to go higher but we decided to not do this because it is more technical. Can be done in combination with rappelling down.

15 Sept 2019 - good weather, clear sky, easy to track. Laguna Torre frozen but still amazing view!

If you are traveling through this region of Argentina, you should not miss a trip to the Perito Moreno Glacier. Note that dogs are NOT allowed to enter. There is at least one doggy daycare in El Calafate where they will take great care of your 4 legged family member for a reasonable price.

We could observe many condors! That's great . The hike is easy and the view is splendid

Very good tour to start. In the middle you can visit the nature reserve Ribera Norte that is not marked.

Completed this in January 2018 easy and great views

beautiful hike.

Nicely marked trail and beautiful scenery. The trail was up and down in elevation, so no long upwards or downwards hikes. The weather was perfect for the Fall, and we even saw a few Condors at the lookout! Highly recommend if you’re in the area and have a couple hours to see the beauty of Argentina. We made it in and out in two and a half hours, but we were hiking pretty quick. Could do it at a nice sonder in 3 and a half easy.

An abbreviated version of the Laguna de Los Tres hike that retains some of the best views. Instead of doing a big loop (20 km), this is a smaller one (10 km) that still gets you to the Mirador Fitz Roy (which is quite busy) as well as a pleasant walk along Laguna Capri with Fitz Roy and the Piedras Blancas glacier in the background. Elevation gain isn’t too sudden, but the trail is muddy along Capri. Winds were mild and we had nearly full sun on our walk. When I asked the locals if they recommended Laguna de Los Tres or Laguna Torres, everyone seemed to recommend Los Tres.

Easy walk along a boardwalk with INCREDIBLE views of the Perito Moreno Glacier! If you are in El Calafate, this is the walk to do!! Boardwalk is well thought out, with ever changing views of the gorgeous glacier as you progress. Weather was great for us, but even if it weren’t, the hike is easy and the boardwalk is designed to reduce ice accumulation and probably could be done almost all year. This app labels the trail as out and back, but you can do it as a circuit and take a free shuttle bus. We drove to the lower parking lot on the north end (which has a quieter cafe/restaurant), walked one way to the main center of the trail (which has a pretty busy restaurant and where you can catch the boat rides), then took the shuttle back to the car.

hiking
washed out

Hiked on 14 Apr 2019. The trail is very easy: a mix of sand, dirt, and boardwalk that meanders along several small lagoons on the edge of Lago Argentino and through a number of microclimates that are meant to represent the different climates found in the region. There are lots of local bird and plant species (including multiple flocks of flamingos) which are introduced by well-labeled placards (mostly in Spanish, as I recall). The gatekeeper warned us the last fifth of the trail was washed out, so we ended up walking almost twice as far in order to return the way we came. Overall, a pleasant leisurely walk.

Beautiful hike, pretty easy, and the view at the end is really cool. Totally doable from el chalten, need 6-7hours.

Sunny warm day, stunning views. Bring lots of water. Best day trip of our life so far, Niagara is no comparison!

Great little trail right out the back of El Chalten. Breathtaking views from the lookout only 2.5 km in.

Easy to moderate trail with stellar views, need permits. We had guides to arrange. Beautiful weather, no wind today, very sunny.

Breathtaking views, sunny day! Saw a large part of glacier fall off and captured it on video too :)
