The views are amazing, the trail is in perfect condition and even though it says hard only the last hour of the hike justifies this label. Still very doable. We did it on a sunny Sunday after a period of bad weather which resulted into this being the most crowded hike ever (queuing to go down etc..), hence the 4 and not 5 stars.

From the parking lot to the vista at the lake, we recorded 14.2 miles. The first 9 km is not that bad, the last 1 km is a serious grinder with ~1200 ft of elevation gain. Nice that much of the trail is shaded and you have glorious views of the mountains almost all the way up.

Ee started out just going to the white stones viewpoint.. a nice walk mostly up on a gentle path. The original track goes beyond the viewpoint some distance with out significant reward. We decided to continue on to the Fitz Roy trail and return to town instead of our car. This added 3 miles or so but was either flat or down hill all the way. Several different views this way. Other than getting to the trail head ( a shuttle is available) this seems like an easier approach to Fitz Roy. Big wind the day we went. Clouds and sun changing place every 20 min.

Spectacular hike. Left at 0600 to make it before the rains came in. Little clouds by 0830 when up top. Snow flurries and rain when leaving. Back to town before noon. Would definitely recommend on slightly cloudy days.

A winding boardwalk around the glacier. Mostly easy with magnificent views.

Awesome hike. Make sure you bring some extra layers. A rain shell saved our lives when it suddenly started blowing crazy wind and rain. Do the detour to Mirador Fitz Roy (the loop near Laguna Capri) and climb up the little hill next to the sign with the mountain names. Gives you a great view. For water you can refill in the streams, too. One water container is likely all you need. Maybe have 2 just incase. Once at the top (and you’ve stopped huffing and puffing), go down to the laguna and stick to the trail on the south side of it. You’ll hit a sign that warns you about lack of trails, make a left and go to the edge to see another glacial lake.

HikingGreat!Rocky

My husband and I completed this hike in February 2020 and it was the most incredible hike we have ever been on. There are stunning views throughout the entire trail. It is well marked and easy to follow. We had been warned about the rocky ascent the final mile or so, but we were not fully prepared. It took us a little over an hour to make it up the final mile but it was so worth it. We felt like we were on top of the world and could do anything. We were glad to have good hiking shoes and hiking poles to make it back down the steep rocky path safely. My only wish is that I hadn't booked our bus back to El Calafate that same evening. It would have been nice to have time to really sit and enjoy the view at the top for a while and not have to rush back down.

if you go only to the Mirador, less than three kilometers, you will enjoy a beautiful hike (given that the weather is clear) On clear, dry day you will have views of the river the mountains, the nathafagus forest.

One of the most beautiful hikes I've done. Was lucky to have great weather with frequent clear skies over the course of the day. Would highly recommend using trekking poles coming down. A lot of the rocks had ice on them which made going down right after sunrise really dangerous.

Easy until the last mile, then hard but not killer. When you get to the top you want to them go to the easy peak to the west, great but different views. Go early. Best to van out to Hotel Pilar to ascend and then return by this route into town.

Hiking

A fantastic hike! Great views of Fitz Roy most of the way, especially at the "Miradors" along the way. The last kilometer of the trail is very difficult as it is steep, rocky, narrow, and windy with over a 1000 foot vertical rise. As others have noted, the steep part is doable, but just not much fun. It was so windy at the top that everyone was hiding behind rocks for cover and only popped up quickly for the occasional photo of the spectacular site. We started at 7:30 at the parking lot and avoided the crowds going up. However, going down the steep stretch was unpleasant due to the crowds. After the steep stretch down, we made a side trip to the Piedras Glacier. It was longer than we expected, but a very pretty glacier. With the side trip, our total round trip was about 18 miles. Fitz Roy is a stunning, spectacular peak, so this is definitely the best hike to do in El Chalten in clear weather.

Hiking

A very nice hike with mountain views most of the way. Moderate hike that measured 13.25 miles on my iWatch. As we neared the top, we took the trail to the right which continued through the woods and was sheltered from the wind. Other hikers told us the trail to the left was rocky, exposed and windy. Once you reach the top, the ridge trail on the right rises and eventually gives a better view of the glacier. The trail to the left goes to Tower Lake, which contained several mini icebergs near the shore. It was very windy at the top, and cloudy, so we didn't get to see the top of Laguna Torre. Overall, a great trail to do if you have three days to hike in the El Chalten area, or if the weather prevents hiking Lake of the Threes or Loma del Pliegue.

This is a great moderate trail to do in El Chalten. Many reviews say it is challenging, but ultimately depends on your experience. We trail run in the Canadian Rockies on more challenging terrain so would not consider this hard. The biggest challenge was the fact that it was quite busy, full of people with limited gear and experience. The park staff say it takes 8 hours but we did it in about 4.5 hours in the peak time of the afternoon.

Beautiful hike! 16miles roundtrip from our hotel with the well worth addition to the glacier lookout! Mostly flat with a few inclines. Trail is muddy in places but generally able to navigate around.

This trail has the best views I've ever seen in my life. Period. The first 2 miles and the last mile to the summit are HARD. I'm fit but mostly an amateur hiker and I struggled. But there were children and grandparents on the trail with me, so it's certainly doable, just be prepared.
