Incredible. Do it. Felt tougher than expected! Be sure to do the last bit to Laguna Sucia. Los Tres was snow covered... amazing views the whole way. I think I’ll camp for a day to get some sunrise chill.

Beyond the prettiest place I’ve ever hiked to. Hard on the feet and a long day but worth it. When you reach the first ridge lookout, walk down to the lake and up the knob to the left to see the gorgeous turquoise lake hidden from the first view. That is a perfect lunch spot.

We did it in mid Sept 2019. Very snowy and icy still at the top. You’ll need micro spikes to climb up and especially decent from laguna de los tres. Bad weather for us, couldn’t see mt Fitz Roy, the lake is frozen but was cool because someone just set up a tent and camp right in the middle of the lake. Weather changed fast so bring more warmth and wind proof clothing.

This is the way to see the Fitz Roy!

An abbreviated version of the Laguna de Los Tres hike that retains some of the best views. Instead of doing a big loop (20 km), this is a smaller one (10 km) that still gets you to the Mirador Fitz Roy (which is quite busy) as well as a pleasant walk along Laguna Capri with Fitz Roy and the Piedras Blancas glacier in the background. Elevation gain isn’t too sudden, but the trail is muddy along Capri. Winds were mild and we had nearly full sun on our walk. When I asked the locals if they recommended Laguna de Los Tres or Laguna Torres, everyone seemed to recommend Los Tres.

we started from the Pilar or northeast side of Mt Fitzroy versus starting in El Chalten. we took a 30 minute taxi from El Chalten to the trail head $25 USD which is well worth it versus hiking there along the gravel road. the trail from this side is not nearly as steep as it is if you start in El Chalten and winds through the forest with nice views of the glaciers. the trail is well-worn and in good condition. we started at 8 am and saw only four other hikers! the hike up to Mt. Fitzroy Mirador is steep, rocky and with some large steps and is not well-maintained. the last part is mostly sand and scree but it is worth it once you get to the Mirador! the trail back to El Chalten is also well-worn and follows the river. there are nice views of Mt. Fitzroy if you turn around and look at various points. more hikers arrived as we descended so to avoid that, go early!! the last 2 km are downhill into El Chalten and is steep and mostly dirt and slick without much for views. we are glad we started where we did since we didn't have to start out with the slick and steep portion and we saw more of the national park. total miles was 13.7 and 34,000 if you have a fit bit. definitely the highlight trek to take. Mt. Fitzroy, the White Rocks, are phenomenal!

Beautiful !!!

View on one of biggest glaciers at second day. Amazing camp at third day, with icebergs on lake.

Life-changing, mind-blowing hike. After you slug up to Laguna de los Tres, be sure to hike to the left for 10 minutes on the short rocky trail to the Laguna Sucia viewpoint. A punishing day but outstanding!

Beautiful view of the river, lake, peaks and the glaciers. Excellent choice for a shorter hike. We had about 3 hrs. and this was a wonderful way to close out our trip. Empanadas from the bakery in town made a nice picnic lunch by the lake.

Was staying at Los Huemules so spotted a car down at the trailhead in El Chalten then started in at El Pilar. Pretty flat trek into Poincenot and Blanco with the steep ascent starting after the camp. I think we did +3200' elevation gain so that was a decent hike! Nice weather at Laguna, took pix, went over to view Lago Sucia too, quite spectacular! On way out took in Mirador Fitz Roy which was okay. A cool hike for sure, bring your wind and rain gear and dress warm. Enjoy!

Nice trek at Reserva Natural Los Huemules (11km north of El Chalten downtown area). We were staying at the Reserva and did some short treks on the property. Ascended to Azul Lake then worked my way over to the rickety suspension bridge over the Diablo stream. A really nice trek with an option to take in Laguna El Diablo too.

Amazing hike as long as the weather is cooperative. We had perfect weather for two hours starting at El Pilar, but Lago de los Tres was a hellacious climb through heavy snow...in the middle of summer! The lake was barely visible. After descending from the lake, the weather became clear and warm again. Very odd experience, but I guarantee this hike would be amazing if the weather at Lago de los Trea was clear!

The Huemul Circuit is currently my favorite hike in the world, so a return trip to Patagonia meant I'd head back there to hike it a second time. We spent 4 days and 3 nights hiking around Cerro Huemul with views of the Southern Patagonia Ice Field, Glaciar Viedma, and Glaciar Río Túnel starting from the town of El Chaltén in Argentina during January 2019 to bring in the New Year. If you want more details, check out my extensive trip report at https://travel2walk.com/2019/10/08/trip-report-patagonia-january-2019-part-2-getting-in-huemul-circuit-return/ Our Youtube video companion to the trip report is at https://youtu.be/hSqV0i6HvvA

An amazing trail. Make sure you ask your host for recommendations on the best weather day before you head out. Pick your day carefully. We met some who couldn’t see it at all. The only sad part was the lago at the base of Fitz Roy was still frozen over and covered in snow due to the late winter this year. We were there early nov 2018. The uphill “last” mile to the summit is no joke. The rocks will take their toll on your feet. When I climbed into bed that night I realized my feet were throbbing. This trail total from the hotel to peak and back to the trailhead in elchalten was about 15 miles with about 3k ft gain. When you take this route you get the added benefit of passing the mirador for piedras blancas glaciar. It’s beautiful. I added photos of the trail in, part of the rocky trail up (it gets worse) and of the glaciar.

This is a better trek than the out and back. The incline is less and one does not see the same thing (not that one gets bored with the views). I got a bus ticket for $10 at the El Chaltén station the night before. I was picked up at my Hotel. 30 min ride. Bring proper attire, Once I ran out I filled my water bottle from the running streams. One can taste the turquoise!

This trail is the same as the fitz roy trail except that you dont double back. We took a remis to the rl pilar hotel where you start. It is a relatively flat trail until you join the other fitz roy trail. Unlike the fitz roy trail which has more uphill from the start, this trail def has uphil, but not as much. You walk through a beautiful forest then get to the dreaded uphill rock climb off shoot. This is where the trail joins. You climb over very very rocky ground at a 45°-75° incline for about a mile. It is no joke. We were there on a soectacular clear day. The lagoon at the base was sadly still frozen and covered in snow the “extra” lake over the crest to the right wasnt and was a clear bright blue. But not the turquoise the base suposedly is. :( we walked back the el chalten way to our hotel. Amazing hike. Was about 13 miles.

This is the most beautiful hike we did. Took the bus from El Chalten to El Pilar and started our day from there. The weather was beautiful and we had a blast. Our independent recordings of the trail showed a longer distance (15.3 miles), but it is true that once we got up, we continued the exploration around the laguna. I was very tired and I had to take some Ibuprofen to help with my feet pain (I have a severe plantar fasciatis). Wonderful hike!!!!
