Length: 11.7 mi • Est. 6 h 43 m
This variation to the Lago de los Tres tour requires a transfer from El Chaltén to the trailhead in El Pilar, approximately 17 km away, and then returning on foot to the city of El Chaltén. The route thus forms a sort of "V" bordering Cerro Polo. Transfers can easily be arranged in town for $ 10 USD or less. The rewards of taking this tour are several: First, you can avoid the initial climb, leaving you more energy for the push up to the lake and second, you can see great scenery that you would otherwise miss, including the Rio Blanco valley, Piedras Blancas viewpoint, Fitz Roy Overlook and Glaciers, without missing the benefits of the route between the Laguna and Chaltén! Length: 5.4 mi • Est. 3 h 5 m
The hike to Laguna Capri starts from El Chaltén following the Sendero al Fitz Roy trail and for approximately the first hour of the slope is somewhat steep, first passing through the Mirador del Río De las Vueltas, a natural viewpoint of the river valley. Further on, the fork in the path to the lagoon (on the left) is well signposted. The blue color of the waters of the Capri Lagoon and the native trees all along the trail and surrounding the lagoon make up a dreamlike landscape with panoramic views of Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. Many times this hike is done as part of the long trek to Laguna de Los Tres, but it can also be a short independent hike and enjoyment is guaranteed.Show more

Length: 41.3 mi • Est. Multi-day
Among the many options to do in Patagonia, the Cerro Huemul Circuit can be done as a 4 or 5 day trip and gives the possibility of hiking on the glacier without the need for technical equipment, marveling at incredible views of the Viedma Glacier and the Campo de Hielo Sur, and be surprised by the sounds of gigantic blocks of ice as they break off and fall into the cold waters of Lake Viedma. The first day connects El Chaltén with the Laguna Toro camp. Day 2 connects the Laguna Toro camp with the Paso del Viento (wind pass) with the Paso del Viento camp. Day 3-A Optional additional day: Hike in the Viedma glacier or Day 3-B, Paso del Viento camp to Paso Huemul to Lake Viedma camp. Day 4 or 5 - Lake Viedma Camp to Bahía Túnel, organize transportation (or walk) back to El Chaltén.Show more

Length: 13.6 mi • Est. 6 h 50 m
Another must-go Patagonian attraction when visiting the Torre Lagoon is the Maestri Overlook: a short ascent along a trail in the moraine that was once formed by the glacier material and which starts to the right (bordering the north bank), at the end of the Senda a Laguna Torre trail. The main attraction of the viewpoint is the possibility of having a closer view of the enigmatic Cerro Torre and the spectacular landscape of mountains and glaciers of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.Show more

Length: 43.7 mi • Est. Multi-day
This trail is a combination of smooth track, rocks, scree, and boulder moraines. The trail has several river crossings (bring waterproof shoes), including one that requires either traversing a short zip-line over a small, but otherwise impassable, gorge (bring your own harness and ropes) or going upstream and crossing the river, which may not always be safely crossed depending on water level (can change between am and pm during warm days). Spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers, and the Patagonia icefield.Show more

This trail borders the coast of Lago del Desierto or Laguna del Desierto, which is located a few kilometers from the border with Chile and about 25 kilometers from El Chaltén (Argentina). The lake is surrounded by native lenga and ñire forests and mountain ranges: the Vespignani range to the west with its hanging glaciers and the Bosque range to the east. The views are spectacular! In addition to this pleasant trail, it is possible to camp on the shores of the lake and visit various viewpoints, as well as the Huemul Glacier and the Cascada de Francesca waterfall.Show more
