Hike was amazing - but it is 13 miles round trip and 2500 feet elevation. The mileage does not include walking around lake at top of Refugio Frey, which we did so our trip ended up being about 14 miles. Well worth it but manage expectations!

great trail; panoramic view, last hour is quite tough.

Did half of it

Amazing experience. Family of 4, parents in their 40’s, one child 14 and another child 10. Took us 5 hours. We spent the night at Refugio Otto Meiling and took a tour walking and climbing the glaciers the next morning. Then came down to the base, another 5 hours, and took transportation back to Bariloche City. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Lovely view, people super friendly, trail very well marked, you can’t get lost if you follow the trail.

Such an incredible hike. You get terrific panoramic views of the lakes around Bariloche and tremendous old forests. The hike can be quite strenuous, especially as you start to approach the refugio, where you are going at quite a steep angle for the last kilometer. The refugio is very bare bones, with beds a bathroom and a small kitchen. They do not charge for staying (at the time I went in 2016), but simply ask that you carry a small bag of garbage with you when you go back down the mountain. The final view around the refugio is stunning, steep sharp cliffs capped with snow completely envelope the surroundings, truly the most gorgeous hike I have ever been on.
