We got to the trailhead without issues and there were no bugs. BUT! the trail disintegrated into deep sandy gullies and huge logs which became insurmountable at about 1 1/2 miles in. Too dangerous! Needs major restoration. Do not recommend, especially if you value your health.
It's a short easy hike. A wide trail. I've hiked the area for a while but didn't realize that the waterfall was there. February 2013 I hiked further down the trail along the Rogue river. There were some amazing trees in that area that didn't appear to have any bark. The area is along the avenue of Boulders. If you have small children with you I'd advise not to go past the falls. The area along the Rogue is steep and has a sheer drop off to a class V rapids on the Rogue

Lots of downed trees along the access road, causing us to hike over a mile to the trailhead. Swarms of mosquitoes the whole way... Biting! So annoying. Trail is not clear, and overgrown in spots. Had to turn back who knows how far into it because it was unenjoyable. Too bad really! Maybe in the next few months I can get back and try again!
Beautiful near Knob Falls, and with sure footing and awareness, you can get right up next to them. That does require navigating down a steep hillside (and the "fun" part--climbing back up!). The mossy rocks there and the mist made it a lovely lunch spot for us. The rest of the trail is fairly level and scenic, no real elevation gain and plenty of shade. Nice views of the river; we caught sight of some deer taking a swim.
