I was looking forward to visiting the West House at the end of his trail, but the 200 year old building was the least interesting this about it. Since it's only about .75 miles long I combined it with Peninsula Trail for a very pleasant morning walk. The sunrise was the best I've seen maybe ever.
Another favorite in the Bur-Mill area. Part of the Mountains to Sea trail. I've hiked this trail from the trailhead at the Marina and from the other side at the trailhead off of Old Battleground Ave. A pretty small parking area off of Old Battleground but I've never had a problem landing a spot. Can't go wrong starting at either trailhead. Really well maintained and nice views of the lake. Rolling hills with some flats. I also like it because it's just for hikers. Even though I love mountain biking too, this is a nice trail for those looking to enjoy walking without being hardcore "on the look out".
I've hiked, ran and mountain biked this trail. One of my favorites when trying to get a quick workout in. Nice mix of hills and flats, even on a short loop. Beautiful views of the lake, a couple creeks and a good connector to the greenway and other trails nearby for a longer workout. Not super secluded (driving range, park office, multiple playgrounds and greenway nearby) so I feel pretty safe on this trail. (I always recommend taking pepper-spray into the woods or on a multi-use trail!)
Hiked this trail halfway this past Sunday with friends. This is a beautiful trail bordering Lake Brandt on the northern shoreline. Wildlife was active with numerous birds, squirrels and some deer. It's fairly flat, with a couple hills in the middle. Pretty easy overall.
Chuck U. on Guilford Courthouse National Milita...
Easy walk, beautiful trail through Battleground Park, lots of history here also...easy to add on extra stops
I started at the Old Battleground trailhead, hiked all the way to Lake Brandt Marina, then I used the Wild Turkey Trail to turned around and back to the Old Battleground trailhead for a loop of total 7.3 miles. The Wild Turkey trail was built for mountain biking but I had a good workout for hiking. People on it were very courteous. I was totally enjoyed it.
