Road access is controlled by the Air Force and is closed some days. It is required that you print a hiking permit at home and bring it with you (camping.ehawaii.gov). More info at https://camping.ehawaii.gov/camping/all,details,31708.html.

I gave a 5 just for the smell at one point up there lol I believe it is Eucalyptus!! Loved it! Also start from Kealia and once you reach the gate turn right and there's a end point that way! (No end of trail sign there though)With Kealia it's a round trip just under 10 miles! Beast hike! Amazing work out! My go to! Love it!

Wanted to get out of the house, so I grabbed my dog and chose this trail. Easy to find. Saw some peacocks and cows along the way. Mostly exposed trail, so bring water on a hot day. Starts off relatively flat then bam! A steady incline from about the 3/4 mile point onward. Overall nice hike

Got to this section after starting at the Kealia trail, got a little lost and ran into many spider webs but it was silent up there - I passed maybe 2 people. Would definitely recommend this trail to true hikers! It was beautiful

Se only did the 3miles trail. It is a forest hike, really beautiful, full of nature to breathe. But is only that. It ends up in a road where a lot of people walks there dogs. Easy to climb down, more challenging to climb back up. Is a good option for a 2hr easy hike, if you like forest. Bring mosquito repelent, is full of it.

Long trail good view of the ocean. We saw a few whales and a great view of a valley at the end

Awesome view, the elevation gain is crazy, not much to see up top along the trail, once on top trail turns into a well used dirt road.

Although we had been to Peacock Flats a number of times, we had not done the trail to 3 Corners. This time we took the 4WD road from the Kaena Air Force Tracking Station to Peacock Flats with intent on traversing Mokuleia Trail to Pahole Shelter to traverse along the Makua East Rim to 3 corners. The target location is called 3 corners because it is there that the three valley's of Makaha, Makua and Mokuleia converge. It is also the place where Ohikilolo Ridge joins the Waianae Summit Trail.
The morning was generally clear with a light sprinkling of rain. We had clear views of Makua, Ohikilolo and Mokuleia. We also had the opportunity to see the top of Kaala before the clouds came in.

Unfortunately, by the time we made it to 3 Corners - we could barely see Makaha, and Makua was already socked in. No clear view of the three valleys this time(!) The east rim of Makua Valley is not for the feint hearted. It is a major rollercoaster, with sheer drops and steep inclines. It was also very overgrown. Be prepared with rain gear, gloves and micro-spikes.
The 4WD was about slightly over 8 miles, while the hike was about 3 miles. So a return hike of about 5-6 miles, and a 4WD drive of about 16 miles. Since it was raining today, the drive back was also slick. All in all, it was a good full day with a nice variety of 4-wheeling and hiking.

We will definitely do this many times in the future and hopefully to connect to Ohikilolo ridge or to Mt. Kaala!

This was a decent hike. The assent is fair, at around mile 2.5 you really start to feel it in your legs and glutes. We went up to mile 3, the tree at the marker is decorated for Christmas, that was unexpected. A decent 6 mile round trip. The views are decent, next time well go round trip for the full hike.

Parked across the street from the coconut grove, then walked thru the access gate. The trail is black top and starts out flat for the first mile. We only went to the 3 mile marker and was quite steep from mile 2 to mile 3. Looking forward to going the full route.

The entire drive from Waialua to Kahana is beautiful, as is the rest of Rte 83, and most of O'ahu. The tropical scenery, mountains and ocean are views unlike anything on the mainland, and make me want to return for more. On this leg of ourtrip, we especially enjoyed Waimea Falls, Sunset Beach, and the Polynesian Cultural Center.
