A better version of this hike would probably include parking outside gate or at intersection of Hillcrest and Franklin Canyon Drive and walking along the winding road that leads to the loop and has gorgeous canyon views.
The loop itself was pretty but not always well marked -- sometimes had to look at my phone to figure out how to get off the paved road and back on the trail. A little noise pollution from aircraft that seemed to be heading toward Burbank. Was nice but not great - useful for a short (under an hour) outing with dog.
Trail was lovely, originally went up the wrong one which I instantly knew wasn't this one cause it didn't have water and went straight up and was very exposed and dry. But luckily wasn't far from this trail so once we got here it was a nice scenic break. Lots of little animals in the introduction to the trail and lots of coverage, I'll definitely come here again. Only thing is it's not as difficult as I usually like my hikes to be, but if I want an easy hike this will be it.
We enjoyed it! The trails aren't marked very well, so not sure we did the exact Franklin Canyon trail, but had a nice hike nonetheless. It's not super crowded, and you can meander through the trails without really worrying about getting lost. The ducks and turtles at Heavenly Pond were cool to look at on the bench under the trees. They were very social so clearly they'd been fed before. Overall a great hike! I'd explore there again!
Easy, short hike. Most should be able to do this, but there is a section with stairs. The lake is okay to look at, but the turtles and ducks are the stars of this hike (near the end by a park bench). Would do again, especially to revisit turtles or to take friends.
