Petrified Forest Trail is a 3.6 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Yellowstone National Park, WY that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible from March until October.
Yellowstone has no shortage of striking geology and the Petrified Forest is an exceptional treasure. My husband and I have made the demanding climb to this unique place twice. With the highest regard of the rare and delicate nature of this site, we made the conscientious decision not to collect anything. For those who follow in our footsteps, please only admire the beautiful examples of petrified wood where they belong. Also, sit back and enjoy the view. The road that leads to the park's northeast entrance or the junction with the Grand Loop drive is within sight, although that strip of civilization is a trivial distraction compared to the ambiance that surrounds you. Any traffic is too far to be heard, just a whistle of a breeze in your hair. Perhaps, you will catch the low drawn out sound of wolf song.
