Observation Point Loop Trail is a 2.3 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming that offers scenic views and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is best used from May until September.
Directions from Old Faithful Geyser: Travel to the Firehole River footbridge.
It's a bit of an incline, but totally worth it! As you start the climb your trail will be shaded by pine trees. Try to time it to watch Old Faithful erupt while you're at the observation area.
Best hammock spot in the park! Minimal effort for maximum reward.
definitely strenuous up to the point, but easy over to Solitary geyser, and down to the Lion Group. It is worth the climb to the top, especially if Old Faithful is ready to erupt
Worth the moderate hike to see the basin from this vantage. Definitely time it to see Old Faithful erupt and visit Solitary Geyser while up there
We went here in August. The hike was fairly easy, but the view of OF eruption is amazing. It really puts into perspective the massive size of the geyser with respect to the large building around it.
Since the access point nearest Old Faithful was closed for resurfacing the day we hiked it, we had to walk a rather lengthy section of the Upper Geyser Basin boardwalk to reach the other access point (lots of fascinating thermal features to enjoy!). Once on the trail to Observation Point, we followed the uphill path to Solitary Geyser (no eruption), then headed on up to Observation Point, arriving in time to see an eruption of Old Faithful – quite a sight from this perspective! The view looking down on the entire Upper Geyser Basin is pretty impressive. After seeing Old Faithful erupt, we continued along the short loop until rejoining the main trail. Back past Solitary (still no eruption), then back down to the boardwalks. A pleasant hike to a unique perspective of Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin.
This trail is a short loop that includes the "solitary guyser" on the way up to Observation point and is accessible from the boardwalk around the upper guyser basin (Old Faithful area). This provides (I think) a better vantage point to watch Old Faithful. Easy enough hike with a couple hundred feet of elevation change, if that.
Good hike through the Upper Geyser Basin. The trail gives you a different view point of Old Faithful and some of the other geysers in the area.
The hike up in the morning is beautiful. Many marmots, birds and other wildlife. Take normal precautions.
Another nice easy walk thru the upper basin
