Mount Holmes Trail is a 21.5 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming that features a river and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers. The trail is primarily used for hiking and camping and is best used from July until September.
Long day hike or overnight composed of two short hikes. Trail leads into the back country, climbs Mt Holmes. Great views. Carry bear spray and know how to use it. Trail is flat to rolling for first 5 miles. Ford or walk the log over the stream crossing. Back country campsites at base of Mt Holmes (must register). After the campsites, trail climbs next 4-5 miles, some scree toward top. Bring warm gear for top. Great views!
