A wonderful walking, running and biking path through woods, wetlands, and prairies. Well graded and easy walking. There are numerous side trails and paths to take you to view points and to the water. One could easy spend many days doing easy exploring. Great for families!
Clean and easy loop trail with no obstacles. The loop is a big square. The northern edge is in prairie. The main attractions are a cold bubbling spring with nice Boardwalk where one can touch the water, and a minor hill with 150ft vertical gain. Locally known as the picnic hill, the top offers panoramic views of Madison state Capitol and surrounding glaciated areas. The hill top also features five Native American effigy mounds. The western edge goes into the woods and crosses a couple bridges. The southern edge is on a loooong Boardwalk. After crossing one more bridge the eastern edge emerges onto prairie again, passing through a water tower, and enters Orchid Heights park with facilities. Sandhill cranes are occasionally sighted.
I love this trail!
It was beautiful with so many wild flowers and the springs were a lovely surprise!
It's a nice easy trail to check out if you're in the area.
Easy loop. Very nice scenery.
Great loop trail, perfect for a stroll, run, bike ride, or dog walk.
The hilltop features Native American burial mounds, and the view from the peak is worth checking out.
I love this trail! I run, walk and bike it at least 3-4 times per week. Great for bird and wildlife watching: sandhill cranes, goldfinch, woodpeckers, hawks, turtles, etc...
