Rock Candy Mountain Trail is a 31.4 mile loop trail located near Olympia, WA that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
trail is super lumpy. Lots of boulders under some dust. hard on the feet and ankles but still a decent trail. slight elevation gain but nothing a healthy person couldn't handle. expect more motorized traffic than actual foot traffic.
you can keep a good fast pace hike on the ascent and decent. The dirt bikes were really no bother since you can hear them a long ways away.
This is a nice trail in a much larger trail system designated for motorized use from May to December. I have ridden this trail, and many parts of it connected with other trails, on my dirt bike. Not particularly challenging but a good ride. I don't understand why anyone would want to hike it during motorized use time frame. And to Miss Zieber, you should be able to hear any motorcycle coming your way from a half mile distance, plenty of time to get off the trail and let them pass. Not to mention the entire southern half (south of C-line) of the forest trails which are non motorized use only.
Had a lot of fun. First time. Was able to buy the parking pass via easily posted 1 (866) 320-9933. $11 for one day, $35 for the year. No brainier. I grab the $35 for training in this mountain for my next ultra. (You will need it if you really want to know this MT. There are a lot of crossroads. So like those before me warned...stay directionally conscious. I Hope to to the 30 mile loop in the next 30-45 days.
I tried to post pictures and will hope to post more signage to help the next go round for anyone.
Really awesome first 2.5 miles listening to flowing water, and that transcends to really nice wind through the mountains.
Good easy hike from the parking lot, very pretty. Kids and I hiked 2.5 miles up with the dogs off leash. Didn't come across a single soul. Alot of little creeks. 5 yr old made the whole hike. Just be careful, this trail is multi-use half the year, it's a little unnerving knowing you're hiking with motorized users. :/
The trail is ok. Not terribly difficult but a good workout. The trails are poorly marked. I found myself exploring to find the correct trail. Don't get me wrong, it's not like I was lost...just misplaced. If your looking for a up and back kinda hike then this is not the one for you.
Great day hike for getting in some miles on your boots... Very easy to get on the wrong trail.
Awsome view at the top. Some trails are very rocky and can be tough on your ankles. Watch out for ATVs, they tend to not look out for hikers. Overall nice hike.
Very fun trail! Lots of different directions to go! But be prepared to climb lol
