Mima Falls is one of the highlights of the many trails that make up the expansive Capitol State Forest. The hike is very easy (despite some massive muddy sections) and takes you through both old and new as well as cleared forests. Mima Falls is a nice little 25 foot falls worth checking out. Mima Falls takes its name from the nearby Mima Mounds. Mima is a Native term meaning a little further along. Over the years, the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has worked with volunteers to build up the trail system in Capitol State Forest, expanding on the network of logging roads. It is likely that at least some portions of this trail are built on sections of former logging roads that once led to logging camps that supplied the sawmills in the lumber boom town of nearby Bordeaux. Established by the Bordeaux Brothers back in 1896, this area of the Black Hills were logged for over 40 years until the old growth timber ran out and Bordeaux became a ghost town in 1941. While Capitol State Forest has been a recreation destination for decades, the Mima Falls Trailhead and Campground was not built until 1973. In 2013 the DNR completed an overhaul of the Capitol State Forest Trail system that renamed most of the trails. Older guides will reference these outdated trail names.

beautiful and quiet in October. not too many people to populate the trail. careful of aggressive bikers though, got ran over for having my headphones in while walking.

The trail is well maintained and fairly easy. The only annoyance was all the horse poop on the trail but it wasn't anything major. Dogs on leash are allowed which is nice, took an overweight three year old golden lab and he did great. This is a hike I would bring my somewhat older parents on.

Way too much house poop! Not clearly marked as where to go to see the falls. It is a nice hike though if you're on a time schedule.

This trail is covered in horse poop! It is gravel all the way too the falls. A lot of money has been spent on this trail and seems to be a perfect bike trail. The route going to the falls isn't marked well. Good luck trying to find it and once you get there it is a let down. The water that feeds the trickling falls looks nasty and wouldn't dare touch it. I give it 3 stars because it would be great for biking and not hiking.

Disappointed. Not impressed with the "waterfall" barely even a waterfall. There are no signs showing where to go to get to it. If you continue on from the waterfall you enter a 15 mile loop. The 5.5 miles it says on the description is not a loop. There is horse poop everywhere on the trail but there is a pretty view if you accidentally hike 5 more miles in above the trees.

Nice quick trail with some decent spikes in the trail to get your heart rate up. However, the "falls" was more like a trickle! Lots of horse poop and gun fire near the trailhead due to the gun range nearby.

Fun, fairly easy trail. The only thing I didn't enjoy was all the horses and having to avoid their droppings everywhere.

Eh. This trail is not that enjoyable this time of year as it is littered with horse poop and muffled down by the sounds of gun shots. Its not until you reach the falls where you can't hear the reminiscing bangs. The falls themselves right now (August) is more like a trickle of water since the water level is low. Wait until the colder weather or spring season.

There was too much horse poop to enjoy the trail. It was everywhere. Also, the trail wasn't clearly marked. Had a terrible time. Will try again after November when horse season is over

Very easy to get lost in. The signs aren't very clear and at this time of the year the waterfall wasn't worth it

Nice easy hike. Gun shots aren't too bad. My wife and I just tuned them out after 10 min of hiking. Plenty of shade and berries! Before we knew it, we came upon the falls and got a few pics in accompanied with our friend. We crossed paths with a few bikers but I usually just jump out of the way and let them have the right of way as soon as I here them coming. One guy had a continuous bell going as he was riding. It would be nice if they all had that, or at least one if there were two or more coming around the corner. It would make the clearer path for everyone!! All in all it was fun and enjoyable, I recommend this trail for all to enjoy! Kids watch for the horse poop!!

Nice easy hike. The fall was really cute bc it's tucked away and small. My friend and I were the only ones there at the time. Edit- ignore the photos I posted, those are of a different hike I thought I was writing a review on. Sorry!

Beautiful trail and well maintained. Very serene with great mix of shade and sun. Be sure to follow the west trail signs to reach the falls.

This trail was decent. Had alot of bike activity while on the trail that wasn't wide enough for both walkers and bikes to move together. Overall it was a very relaxing and enjoyable hike mixed with dry open areas, nice shaded wooded area where you walk under the trees and a decent waterfall at the end.

Followed the map with a couple friends and was really disappointed to not see the waterfall mentioned after driving all that way.. Okay hike, lots of horse poop however. Probably won't go again.

Pretty easy trail, went to see the waterfall and did not come across it since we used the map on the app. Only to find out its off towards the west trail and the map guides you on the east trail. Note to self read the reviews before starting hike. The directions on the signs sucks, wish they would be a little more specific. I did not appreciate the piles of horse poop but we were able to dodge them. We were out there for two hours and even though we headed out further into the trail you could still hear the firing range, so don't expect any quiet nature sounds. Also too many dogs off leash, it's not that hard folks keep yours dogs on leash for a everyone's safety! Will come back and do it again to see the falls.
