Margaret's Way opened on June 6, 2015, National Trail Day in Cougar/Squak Corridor. Built by local volunteers working with WTA and a King County Parks backcountry trails crew, the new trail honors Margaret MacLeod, a park planner for numerous local, state and federal agencies, whose long career resulted in the preservation of hundreds of acres of acres of land along Issaquah Creek and the Squak and Tiger mountain uplands. Beginning from the Squak Mountain Lodge, the trail heads through the parking and camping area using old access and logging roads before becoming true trail. Roads once laced the upper reaches of the mountain, but these are now mostly overgrown with moss-laden bigleaf maple, cedar, western hemlock, and a few Douglas-fir, thanks in part to MacLeod's work to preserve this area. Once you step onto the trail itself, you'll wend your way along a hillside, continuing on a moderate grade through green underbrush and silent sentinel trees to Debbie's View, a delightful lookout point with views of Mount Rainier and the surrounding foothills.

This was a really nice hike. It's pretty steep to start, levels off, and then gets steep up to the top. Once you reach the end of Margaret's Way Trail, it's definitely worth it to go a little further to Debbie's Point for the view.

Great hike- peaceful forest, patches of occasional sunshine and nice view of rainier and tree tops. First mile is 950 gain. Switchbacks are cut in well and give a steady-but-not-killer incline though. From parking lot to Debbie's View is 8.5 mi round trip and 2000 gain. They technically say the trail starts a bit after the parking lot

Wonderful Hike, certainly not a beginner's hike. Lot of birds and chipmunks can be spotted. I believe I came across the resident spotted owl. View from Debbie's view if wonderful. Pristine forest and quite makes it worth it.

A fabulous hike but not for beginners. It feels as if there's three starts to the trail because you go up then level then up again and so on. But then you really go up. However, it's worth every mile. Quiet forest with a truly away from everything feel and great views.

Trail is practically empty during the week. Peaceful trek through the woods. Ran across a little gardener snake, and a few muddy spots on the trail but otherwise smooth sailing, and quite well-maintained. There's moderate hills and incline that get the heart pumpin'. Definitely go to Debbie's viewpoint, it's beautiful and there's a bench to sit, relax and take in the scenery.

Beautiful forest, but there's not too much variation in the landscape, and the view at the end was a little anticlimactic. Still, very peaceful, and you'll see all kinds of critters.

Starts uphill; about halfway through there's an extended level/downhill section to let you catch your breath, and then the climbing begins again in earnest until you reach the end.

For those who like a little peace. Gradual moderate incline. Good workout. Bear sightings couple of months ago.

These lines came to my mind, and I am not even a poet

There deep in the forest
Amongst the old trees
Where silence and rustling leaves talked
whispered and laughed
oblivious
To a grateful man and his wonderment

The hike offers a gradual incline, a really good workout. It is not crowded and has also had a bear siting. It's a very wooded trail with no landmarks so tends to drag on a little bit.

Great hike!!! Make sure you bring enough water. It is a nice climb all the way up. Take time to enjoy the view and your surroundings. Will do again!!! 7/25/16

The trail was great except for some muddy patches. It is very well marked so no worries about getting lost. There are not any expansive views like there are with some trails but the trees and other plant life is gorgeous. Probably my favorite part was how shaded it is. All in all it was a beautiful hike that will give you a moderately challenging workout.

it was a beautiful forest but unfortunately the end point isn't so rewarding as far as some sort of view or mountain point.

Great time, there were a few muddy patches on the way up, but nothing unavoidable. Definitely would recommend going the extra little ways to Debbie's View, once you're to the top of Margaret's it's pretty much flat and just a couple minutes, and a great view!
