This was my first experience backpacking with the full-heavy pack on an overnight trip and it was pretty easy going for about 2/3rds of the hike. Then it gets real steep for the final 2-3 miles. We camped near Surprise Lake and the mosquitoes were terrible! We moved away from water to a breezy bluff area and even when the sun set and it cooled off they were still there buzzing up next to us! The sites during the hike were ok, but much of the trek is in the woods without spectacular views. When you do break into a mountain meadow it is gorgeous though! I recommend this as a day hike instead of an overnighter.
