Capitol Peak Trail is a 5.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Olympia, Washington that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and off road driving and is accessible year-round.
off road driving
Another trail not properly designated. This is a heavily traveled motorcycle atv trail along with all other use. The most challenging trail on the property. The 3/4 mile long grunt trail is aptly named that intersects this trail. The view at the top includes baker, rainier, Adams, St. Helens, Stewart and the olympics. You can literally drive most of the way up to the top, see the big radio towers on the satellite map.
Not a family friendly trail. Mountain bikers, dirt bikers (motorized), gun shots going off, and cougar sightings.
Take extreme caution on the trail with children.
Also make sure you download the maps because cross sections of the trail are not well-marked and you may lose all cellular service.
This is a great place for riding Quads!! Although there are a lot of gravel logging roads throughout, it is mainly used for atv and dirtbike riding. The view from the top of Rock Candy Mt. is beautiful, you can see lakes, the puget sound, and on a very clear day you can see downtown Seattle. Definitely a must see, not much for hiking though, and like others say during the week watch out for logging trucks.
would have been nice if it wasn't for the gravel dump trucks speeding down the hill, plus I had my 2 year old daughter so we just took off. not safe to use trail with children while the trucks are working.
The drive in was beautiful (although it was mostly gravel road). I was disappointed that there were no clear trailheads and parking. We ended up driving to the top, looked around, and went home.
loved it the view from the peak is beautiful. we had a picnic @ the top & enjoyed the view
