From Long Beach, south 3.5 miles on Pacific Way to Ilwaco. Turn right on North Head Road and drive 2.5 miles to North Head Lighthouse Road. Turn right and drive .5 miles to the well-signed park entrance. The main trailhead is located at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, inside the park entrance.
It was a more challenging hike than expected. The view from McKinley Head is ho-hum. But there is a pretty cool old military battery there from a past day. Pretty neat to sneak back in history. The small hike by the Cape Disappointment lighthouse has a really cool beach area. Definitely worth it and the lighthouses are being restored!
Beautiful, lush, often canopied hike from lighthouse to Lewis & Clark interpretive center to sunny Waikiki Beach (1.2 miles one way, moderate). Then from beach we took the scenic Coastal Forest loop that provided lovely overlook views of Baker Bay (1.5 mile loop, moderate). On the coastal hike, we encountered a 4-foot snake (very cool!) and pod of angry wasps (not cool--got stung twice). Still very worth a visit.
Nice small hike for everyone. Great place to see the Columbia Bar and see and feel the history of the area.
Walked from the parking lot to the light house with a preschooler, toddler and infant. Fun hike!! Glad we found it!
easy hike, very family friendly. great views. dead mans cove is an awesome place for lunch!
We hiked from Cape Disappointment State Park to Cape Disappointment lighthouse. The trail was fun and is good for families and kids. There are a couple of nice overlooks to the beach/ocean, and an old bunker located along the trail
