Aug 9th 2014. ""BRING BUG SPRAY!"" Bench lake was smooth as glass when we went and has a great reflection of Rainier on a clear day. Snow lake was beutiful and blue surrounded by rocky peaks and we went past the trail to the back and found a waterfall and hung out in the snow for a bit. took the hike mid day but think at this time of year it would be best taken early morning.

Another 5-star family hiking day. Gorgeous trail that I'm looking forward to bringing my kids back to before it closes for the winter. Simple trail with beautiful views of the mountains--not a lot of side trails to wander off on, but the kids enjoyed the walk. Had enough climb to it to make them work a little for it, which I like.

The trail was maintained and there were a reasonable amount of people, but it was never crowded and we usually only passed each other coming or going. The trail past the maintained one was in decent shape when we went, so we got to enjoy a waterfall and even a small patch of snow with our snacks.

Definitely, definitely bring your bug spray if you're going in late summer/early fall. There were a ton of biting flies and mosquitoes.
