Sol Duc Falls Nature Trail to Appleton Pass Trail is a 25 mile out and back trail located near Forks, WA that offers scenic views and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and horses and is accessible from July until October. Horses are also able to use this trail.
From Port Angeles, west 30 miles on U.S. 101 to well-signed Sol Duc Hot Springs Road. Turn left and drive 14 miles to the trailhead at the end of the road.
I hiked this as a 3 day trip from the sol duc parking lot over the pass and down to the Olympic hot springs and back.
The trail to Appleton pass is relatively good condition with only 2 or 3 trees over the path and so worth the climb for the amazing views however the other side of the range Watson very poor condition with areas of the trail hard to find or follow. Pleasant hiking the whole way and fairly strenuous with a big load on my back but so worth the journey. I only say 1 other person the whole trail once I passed Appleton junction so very alone the whole time.
Very much enjoyed the hike but Olympic hot springs were a bit of a let down.
