Sugar Hill Loop Trail is a 3.5 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Saint Paul, Virginia that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
The Sugar Hill Loop Trail traverses an open (bald) ridge line high above the Clinch River just outside of the town of St. Paul, Virginia. Views from the trail include a panoramic overlook of the Virginia Ridge and Valley and the Clinch River itself. This trail also features the remnants of an 18th-century settlement midway through the hike. Sugar Hill is actually part of a larger trail system situated on a conservation easement just outside of St. Paul. A number of other trails share a trailhead with this loop, allowing for several longer hikes to be pieced together between this area, the town of St. Paul itself, and another conservation easement at the Bluebell Island Preserve just upriver from town. Collectively, these trails form one of the most diverse areas for outdoor recreation and varied scenery in the entire southwest Virginia region.
