Great trail, not too steep but you can break off and get to steep parts if you like. The views from the top are amazing, you can see the whole valley! Rock formation on the way up are cool to look at and all different sizes and shapes.
A great beginner hike! The views are excellent. Dogs should be allowed.
very short simple hike. great view tho during the fall. I hiked a longer trail first and just went on this one at the end. you can also hike from Little Stony Man up to Stony if you're looking for a little more.
This place was a perfect little hike for my girlfriend and me! Beautiful day!
Definitely recommend. It's a shorter hike that's much less trafficked than others but still offers nice views and an overlook
Quick hike, with an amazing view at the end! Strongly suggest it if you're pressed for time, or just looking to go for a stroll. There are options to hop on other trails along the way, so you can always keep the journey going, but the overlook is worth making the loop. There's ample space to sit and take in the scenery (over rocks), so packing a snack might be a good option to just relax and hang out for a bit!
A great, quick hike.... Less than a mile to the top. An excellent hike for your kids to do. A HUGE reward at the top for sure.
The trail head is in the right corner of the parking lot. Follow this trail and you will come to a 4 way intersection of trails ... go straight across and upward. Moving up the hill a bit the trail forks and either path will lead you to the top in a short distance will equal effort. At the top there is a sign pointing to stony man summit. enjoy.
Loved that this was something to actually DO in Shenandoah after stopping at all the overlooks - I had looked this up before my road trip and while I don't remember the actual hike to be strenuous and more of a regular trail for the most part, the summit was gorgeous! Would do again for sure.
Loooooved this trail! Took my kids and we had a blast! Didn't spot any bears but a chipmunk.
Great hike for the family. It opens up to a beautiful view over the Shenandoah mountains. My small children 5 and under enjoy this hike.
Great views and quick hike!
Really easy, pleasant hike that delivers a great payoff at the top. Perfect family hike... just hang onto those kiddos at the top! Easy to complete inside of an hour.
Really great, easy trail for the whole family to do, leading to some gorgeous views. Did it on our first day in the park and was a great start to the trip!
this was a really nice trail, very easy. i was able to do entire thing with injured foot. payoff for view vs effort is so worth it.
This hike was awesome! Less than a mile to the top and the hike up is very moderate. The overlook has amazing views of the valley- one could spend a lot of time up there!
Great hike for three kids aged 10, 8, and 5. distance was just right and the uphill portions were not too strenuous.
Easy and quick trail up to Stony Man lookout/overlook. Trail was well worn and well maintained. Family friendly. Great view at Stony Man overlook.
The kids (7 and 9) really had a fantastic time on this trail, which begins from a parking lot near the North entrance to Skyland. When we visited, a huge number of inchworms had recently hatched at Skyland, and they were everywhere (green ones and black ones with grey / white stripes) - our younger daughter LOVED it. She carried one with her on the hike all the way up. We also used the kid's scavenger hunt book for the area, which we really enjoyed. The view from the top is fantastic, and there's room enough for the kids to - cautiously - climb around and enjoy the rocks without being near the edge. Hold on to your hat! It can get extremely windy up there. We also saw a black bear and two deer on the walk back down. Perfect!
An easy, quick trail with a great view at the top.
