Ruritan Trail is a 0.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Chesapeake, Virginia that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, birding, and canoeing and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Hike the boardwalks through the wetlands and walk the beautiful woodland. This trail should be great for all abilities, except the boardwalks and the big hill. This is actually a part of Deep Creek Locks. Start to the left of the lodge and follow all of the boardwalks across, then up to the park road and back around or make a U-turn at the end of the boardwalks and come back on the other side of the big hill and lookout. The boardwalks section might not accomodate ADA but there is a lot more beauty in the park.
Very easy and very short. This is one of my kids' favorite hikes. We usually come at it from the Deep Creek Locks, hike to the Ruritan club and back. If you go at high tide, parts of this trail may be underwater or extremely muddy.
For such a short trail this offers a lot to see! The wetlands, the lake, the beautiful woods and the birds of prey. Do this and Deep Creek Locks on the same visit. It is all part of the same wonderful park.
