Homestead Trail is a 1.3 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Portsmouth, Virginia that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
The lake, forrest and guided nature trail give you a lot for a short trail. Very level, well maintained and easy. Suitable for all ability levels. Start out along the lake and enter the beautiful forrest with the guided nature trail. Milage is from the parking lot. Combine this and the other loop trails with the main trail around the lake at Hoffler Creek Wildlife Preserve to gain mileage.
By itself it is a pleasant walk in the woods. It meets the main trail, (Ballard Trail) at each end so it can be looped with the main trail or just used to add mileage to the main trail. There are flyers telling the story of the old homestead that once was in it's glory here. Many plants and trees are identified along the trail.
A wonderful little trail right in the city. The Loblolly Pines make a beautiful forrest to walk through.
