This is a real surprise find a hill this high in the area. A short out and back that most abilities can handle. Beautiful! From swamp to forrest to high dune. Hike it out and back or combine it with other trails.
High Dune itself is a very short connector trail. Cool looking steps up the hill/dune and descent through trees. Not earth-shattering but a fun detour. My dog was happy.
My wife and I love this trail! so peaceful and great little views where the benches are. We try to make it out at least once a week when tbe weathers nice.
Amazing! I did this trail clock wise a couple weeks ago and just did it again counter-clockwise a couple days ago. The dune was so much higher doing the trail clockwise. That is because counter-clockwise you come to a false summit, run along the ridge and then go up a little more. It is not really very high anyway, just high for where it is. There is a bench on each summit so even the most out-of-shape can handle it.
I loved this trail. There was so much to see in such a short distance.
A beautiful short hike. The colors of the swamp and the forrest were amazing. Here is a place that looks like it would never go much above sea level and suddenly there is the high dune! At this point you can go back to the Trail Center or continue on other trails.
