Directions from Natural Bridge Station, VA: Take VA Route 130 at Natural Bridge Station, turn south on VA Route 759. Go 0.9 mile and turn east (left) on VA Route 782. Just past The Campground at Natural Bridge, the paved road makes a sharp right turn. Stay on paved road and continue about 0.3 mile to horse trail parking lot.
To access the Gunter Ridge trail head, you hike a mile down Glenwood Horse Trail from the parking lot. The access and trail head are both clearly marked. The trail ascends through an old burn, so much of the trail is through scrub. The climb is moderate due to a number of switchbacks. There are some nice views on the climb during leaf-off. It eventually meets up with Belfast Trail which can be used for a long loop back to Glenwood and the parking lot.
