Flat out, gorgeous!
Great fall morning on the River Trail, Ridge Trail and Matildaville Trail. Great leaf coverage on the ground, but it also made for some tricky footwork in places. Definitely recommend going early on weekends. There were a couple of large groups of 12 - 15 people but it was fine once you got around them.
Hiked on Veterans Day, so the fee was waived. Trail is called "River Trail" and connects to "Difficult Run" trail and loops around back to the visitor center. Busy around the main entrance by the visitor center, but the crowd started to fade about half a mile in. Instead of connecting to Difficult Run trail, I decided to hike back along the river on River Trail. Multiple lookouts and places to sit and reflect along the way. Peaceful and lined with fall foliage on both sides of the river.
Great Hike and great views!
Really crowded, but worth the trip! Took my 6 yr old daughter and she loved it. need to do the entire loop next time.
Start off in parking lot. Quickly looks over the main viewing areas. Then head down the path closest to the river. Lots of fun rock and cliff climbing. A mobile dog can handle most of the path.
Fun day hike! The falls were larger than I thought. Very impressive to see how high the water has been in the past.
Beautiful overlooks readily accessible
Had a great time!!!
We've come to like this route. Pretty easy; the Swamp Trail detour is a must. Also, the park labels this the Ridge Trail so follow those signs.
Quite crowded as it is Great Falls. Go early (before 9) to fully enjoy and get parking in the small lots. On weekends it can take up to 30 minutes to enter the park in the afternoon due to crowding.
Very close, shade, water, long trails and also you can swim
Loved the view!
When nature calls, you answer!
Decided to get out of the house and check out this hike with my dog and had a great experience. Beautiful hike on a hot summer day but the trails were well shaded. Make sure to bring some water!
Don't forget to unplug and connect with all of the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer here.
Excellent. A bit more challenging than I thought it would be but beautiful!
The views are amazing!
