This hike explores the Goodwin Gold Mine back in the 1800's which was one of many in the area! There are also Sawmill ruins and other things to explore here. The trail starts out on the flat Mill pond trail and takes us to a feeder of the large lake in the area, at this location was the site of Hailey's Mill. The 2nd leg takes you through pigeon run trail along a road and into a very very quiet forest with a stream crossing. The 3rd leg brings you to the Gold mine trail, going back up along the road for a long ways until we finally reach the gold mine in the forest. The gold mine ruins, trenches, and multiple depressions are very pronounced in the area. This part of the hike presents the most abundant birds in the area, possible predatory varieties. The last leg takes us back through pine and other varieties of forests, relatively flat areas. Before reaching the parking lot, you will find a sawmill site with a pronounced water well and history sign.
