Appalachian Trail: Raccoon Branch Wilderness Section is a 8 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Sugar Grove, Virginia that features beautiful wild flowers. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

The Raccoon Branch Wilderness portion of the Appalachian Trail is an 8 mile out and back for hikers only. This section of the AT starts at State Route 650 and goes northbound for 4 miles. There is a trail register for this section of the AT. The northern Wilderness Boundary sign is within 50 feet of the side trail to the Trimpi AT shelter. The Virginia Highlands Horse Trail intersects the AT within .8 miles of the start at Dickey Gap. Bobby's Trail is located at 1.5 miles northbound and runs east of the AT to a section of the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail .
