Hiked from Chester Gap to Manassas Gap. 8.2 mi one way. 16.4mi return trip.

Park at the 522 lot, cross the road to get on to the AT. The trail follows the zoo conservancy fence for about a mile or two. It's a moderate and steady incline. Around 3.6 mi the trail forks. Right to Mosby Camp, left the AT. A bit after the fork on the AT you'll get to the spring and shelter. This section is pretty flat. Trail continues north. After a bit you'll pass power lines. A half mile or so the trail crosses a road and continues up hill for a while. Once at the top the trail levels off. There's a bench to rest here in a clearing. After the clearing it's a moderate decline until you reach the train tracks and not far from there 66 and the Manassas Gap parking lot.

Did this from 522 to Compton Peak. Took about4.5-5 hours.

There are a couple of small creek crossings. The trail is a moderate incline for the most part. Nothing too strenuous.
