Great hike. I would rate as hard. Beautiful views from the fire tower. Parking is inside a gravel pit a couple 100 yards pass (or before depending on your direction) where your GPS will take you if you use the alltrails directions.
There is a fire tower on top of this mountain that really worth the hike. The view we have from there is fantastic. We can look very far and see part of Vermont, New Hampshire (North Country), and probably part of Quebec on the very far horizon, looking north. This is a moderate to difficult hike on my point of view, but the view really worth the effort once at the top of the mountain. You'll have to climb the tower to get the view though, and as of today (July 2012) the tower is in good shape.
This is a must hike. 7 miles via Birchtoft trail to Red spot, Pumpelly trail.
