The South Skyline Trail is a long and steady hill climb. The trail climbs over 3180 feet when starting at Pineview Trailhead. From the ridgeline you can head southwest to Lewis Peak Trail or north to the North Ogden Divide Trailhead. South Skyline Trail has a lot to offer hikers, mountain bikers and off road motorcycles. The trail is mostly single track and well worn. Several trail options are presented along the trail to climb the high road for better views or to stick to the lower trails for less elevation climbs. Lewis Peak is is the prominent peak in the area and the Lewis Peak Trailhead can be accessed from either of the two South Skyline Trailheads.

We hiked from north Ogden divide to Lewis Peak then to the Marina at Pine View.
The trail from the divide to the top of the mountain is very steep with lots of trip hazards like routs and rocks and trees , along the top of the ridge your exposed to the weather , sun and wind as you go over the south side of the trail the trail is wide and in very good condition , as always "YOU ARE IN THE GREAT OUT DOORS" watch out for Wild life , Moose, Deer , Bears And Rattle Snakes ..
Just saying ....
The switch backs down to pine view were amazing and lots of awaits views

the trail was a larger distance and a lower incline gradient towards the eden area, hiking this trail is highly inadvised to unexperienced backpackers, for those who want to camp the first area level enough for a tent is approximately 3.5 miles in from the eden trailhead there wasn't really to many good spots to take a break,it is also inadvised to rest on the trail due to the occasional dirtbikers

On the 15 of August 2016 the morning was mostly cloudy but just after noon it became extremely hot very quickly getting to 98°F before 1pm,while up there a fellow hiker and I were cut off by a rattlesnake it is advised to bring mace to deter hostile creatures

RATTLESNAKES ARE IN THE AREA!! use extreme caution and take precautionary measures to avoid encounters

Great trail, steady incline, well maintained. We only went 3 miles up from the east side by Huntsville Res., had our 7 & 10 yo w/ us. Beautiful views the whole way up. Went on a Friday morn, only saw 3 people. This was a very enjoyable hike, became a new favorite and we hope to do the whole thing one day.

I went from the Ogden divide, went to Lewis Peak and back. climb starts out pretty steep at first but once you hit the ridge line it's nice with some beautiful views. there was still some snow up top and the winds were pretty mean especially at Lewis Peak but it's well worth the trip

Have hiked up this trail a couple times. The first time I came up from the divide, went to Lewis Peak, south along the ridge, then returned back to the Pineview trail and headed downhill from there. My second trip was from the divide to Lewis Peak and back. It can be quite sunny on top with no shade, but the mountain winds make you forget about sunscreen - I got burned pretty bad on one of my trips. It is a fun hike with great views. Horses and dirt bikes are pretty common on it.

Miles of fun. It is a long and steady climb to the top. The first couple of miles have shade but the rest of the trip you are pretty exposed. Don't forget your sunscreen. Great views the entire trip. Can be busy if the bikers or trail runners are out, usually clear in the afternoon.

This trail is one that is over looked I think. The trail is very long and has a very steady climb but its not that difficult to complete in an outing. I have done some or all of this trail several times and plan on doing it some more in the future. The views up here are very nice and you get a 360 view of the surrounding valleys some of the time. If you are a geocahers lots of fun caches are along this trail.
