Northgate Peaks via Kolob Terrace is a 6 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Springdale, UT that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
An alpine hike to a viewpoint between Peaks. A difficult route extension to the summit of both peaks is provided. As temperatures rise to triple digits in the main canyon of Zion National Park, a hiker is left with few choices: 1) Continue to ride the sweltering shuttle service 2) Swim in the Virgin river (always a good choice during summer) 3) Change from hiking to canyoneering (many canyons require wetsuits even in the heat of summer) or 4) Move to higher elevation. Northgate Peaks trail is a beautiful alpine hike, through towering Ponderosa Pine trees along a maintained trail. A lava point overlook allows the viewing of Northgate Peaks East, West and The North Guardian Angel. A backcountry route extension description is provided to summit both Northgate Peaks if desired.
please note...this hike is in zion natl park. therefore NO DOGS allowed.
This is a very nice and easy hike if you don't do the loop at the end that has you summit two rather steep rock points. The main trail is easy and goes through pine and sage fields. The loop at the end is strenuous but worth the views on each summit. We only saw 3 other people on our hike, so their is plenty of solitude if that's your thing. One of my favorites for Zion!!!!
Very chill and relaxed trail. I wouldn't even consider this a "hike", it was more of a walk. A very peaceful, quiet walk, away from the madness of the main part of Zion. If you're looking to get away from the crowds, and still want beautiful views without a strenuous climb, then this trail is one to certainly check out. I only made it to the end of the marked trail peak and back, but I did see many other trails that were clearly labeled for where each lead to. Even for a holiday weekend, it was very isolated. Only ran into a few people here and there. And the pines were so amazing to listen to as the breeze blew through them. It was wonderful!! And the 70 degree temps made it perfect enough to give this trail a 10 in my book.
Friends in from out of town, family looking for a fun, cooler (as in temperature) hike in the Zion area. Always one of my favorites. I don't think there is another peak in Zion, as easy to climb, that offers the same rewarding views as Northgate Peaks East summit.
The Kolob Terrace section of Zion National Park is a great place to go as temperatures climb in the main Zion canyon. Northgate Peaks Trail is a beautiful stroll along a high mountain plateau to a stunning rocky lookout point.
Nice little high mesa trail through meadows to a viewpoint overlooking several area peaks. We hiked this late in the day as a sunset hike, and weren't disappointed.
