Gambel Oak Loop is a 3.9 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Park City, UT. The trail is good for all skill levels and primarily used for hiking.
Nice hike, well marked. Recommend the clockwise direction and the grade is more gradual. Will definitely be back on snow shoes this winter.
I walked to the Aerie Road trail head from my downtown Park City hotel and was clearly marked. I would recommend doing the loop in the clockwise direction as I did since slower uphill than if do the loop counterclockwise direction. Views of downtown Park City are first if going clockwise and nice.
Good to take a hat since majority of hike is exposed, though broken up with small copses. Although not all the trails are marked on the AllTrails Map, I easily found and used the "4:20 Hike Lost Prospector-Gambel Oak-Masonic Loop" map as it kept me off most paved roads.
Easy to get to from the Town Lift area. If you walk up Aerie Drive (three spots for parking) there are two trail heads points Lost Prospector. It was a little confusing maneuvering the Lost Prospector and Gambel Loop. You will need to connect a bit via paved roads. The views of downtown are great. There isn't a lot of shade in parts so wear a hat.
Nice brisk hike - 3.7 miles in just over an hour. Easy to access, well-marked & maintained, nice views of Old Town Park City, Snowpark in Deer Valley. Saw a mule deer & some birds; middle 1/3 (Masonic) had snowfields & mud.
