Grand View Point Trail is a 1.8 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Moab, UT that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and birding and is accessible year-round.
Directions from Island in the Sky Visitor Center: Drive 6.25 miles southward on the Main Island Road. At the junction of Upheaval Dome/Grand View Roads bear left toward Grand View Point. Continue traveling six miles, past White Rim Overlook, to the Grand View Trailhead.
Pretty awesome views rivaling the Grand Canyon, although not quite so good in my humble hiker opinion. Still, well worth the short jaunt to the end and even more amazing views. This whole park is truly unbelievable.
Breathtaking views . Some spots on the way to the second overlook are not for people who are afraid of heights. The second overlook was much better than the first one.
The hike is fine and the views are unbelievable. The problem is: the best views are from the trailhead/parking lot. Throughout the course of the hike, you continue to see the same views, but the vista doesn't get any better. I liked the trail and it's worth walking as it's pretty well defined. However, there's no reward for your effort. I can't give this trail more than 3 stars.
That said, you should go for the view and the exercise.
spectacular views and hike along the rim
Easy hike for a breathtaking view.
Beautiful overlook of the Island in the Sky area. Absolutely breathtaking, and makes you feel so small. Loved this area.
This view is amazing, and extremely accessible. If you're in Moab, and have 15-20 minutes to kill, I would highly recommend this then.
Great views of the canyon
Great views of the canyons in Canyonlands
Did this hike with my children (12, 11, 9, 7, 6) and my 2 year old on my back. It is a basic rim hike, but the views and the openness to the edge of a steep canyon drop is prevalent the whole way. It does not have the notoriety of the Grand Canyon which we had visited ten days earlier, but there may have actually been more canyon area to view along the way. Central Utah is replete with canyons of all kinds and this hike gives a great view of them. Also, the kids enjoyed the rocks and extra-curricular climbing that was available along the way. My children were much less concerned with the edges of the canyon than I was, so I had to stay on my toes to keep them from getting too close to the edge.
Great views of the Needles section of Canyonlands from the rim. Check out the weathering along the trail - it's really fascinating how the sandstone erodes in strange patterns.
Definitely worth hiking one mile out and back along the rim. You can't beat the view!
Great views from this short easy hike. Reminds me of the Grand Canyon.
If there is one view not to be missed that will be remembered forever it is Grand View at Dead Horse Point. Do not think that something like Goblin State Park will compare. Take the time and visit. You will be glad you did. Easy hike from your car to overlook.
Note: this park is accessible via RT 219 from Moab and not near Monticello UT
This is one of the best overlooks in the Island of the Sky section of Canyonlands NP. A 1 mile trail goes along the rim of the canyon. I think Canyonlands is just as good as Grand Canyon NP, but without all the crowds.
