Good stop between National Parks, only 22 miles west of Kanab on Sand Dunes Road, these sand dunes really "pop" in the morning or evening sun. Although 90% of the park is open to ATVs, you can always find a quiet place to bask in the pink sands. These sand dunes are created by a Venturi effect. Wind gets funneled through the notch between the Moquith and Moccasin mountains carrying eroding sandstone sand to the dunes. The park is 3730 acres off US-89, 3 miles from Mount Carmel Junction. At the main entrance is a boardwalk and trees for shade. They also offer astronomy workshops during the summer. Famous for the 1965 movie, "The Greatest Story Ever Told," the dunes were chosen because of resemblance to vast sands of Egypt. Play in the sand and enjoy the way the sun sets the dunes on fire.

5 Stars, would go back a million times just to roll around in the sand. That being said, I wouldn't drive way out of my way to get here, but if we're in the area, we're definitely going to make a stop!

The color of the sand is quite unique (at least for a Texan).

The coral pink dunes are a wonderful place to enjoy the sun and sand. Lots of folks come out here to ATV, but it can be equally fun to run down the dunes by foot. There's also usually quite a few animal bones in the shade of nearby trees. Have fun and explore!
