Great trail and well marked and as others have said make sure you to all the way to the lighthouse
beautiful bring a lunch and make sure to climb all the way to the lighthouse. best trail
Pretty easy hike with lots of traffic if you are there on a weekend. Nothing too spectacular until you get to the end of the trail and have to do some real scrambling to get to the Lighthouse! Worth the long walk to see this and get to the top and have the view! Don't underestimate this trail though.....you'll need ample water.
Too steep & dangerous on the last portion for people not athletically inclined. Needs safer path for all to enjoy.
Love it! Such a great hike
Start early and bring lots of water! Also be sure to make the final hike up to the base of the lighthouse if you can.
Incredible hike, just make sure to hit the trail early and bring plenty of water! Multiple rest and shade spots along the way. There can be a lot of bike traffic at times, so pay attention.
Pretty and popular, not for people wanting solitude. It's a great hike and if you can make the haul up to the lighthouse at the end the views and photo opps are worth it!
A well traveled path should not deter one's visit to The Lighthouse Trail, as the end result is well worth this near dirt road that is certainly traveled by many. An easy hike until the last .02 of a mile ... trail goes from easy to difficult at the end. Views are well worth this 3 mile trek.
I have done this hike many times in all seasons. The hike itself is easy (even ground, lots of benches to rest) - just remember to bring plenty (!) of water, since it there is no shade, and temperatures in the Canyon are rather high. The "official" trail ends rather disappointing on a bench from which you cannot even see the lighthouse. To get to the lighthouse, you have to climb the canyon ridge at that spot - you need good shoes, since the sand and rock underground keeps sliding underneath. This last bit is not easy. However, it is well worth the effort, since from the top, you can see both the lighthouse rock formation (and get there easily) as well as the canyon underneath you - beautiful! If you are afraid of heights, have someone with you for both the ascend and descend of the wall as well as the lighthouse itself.
take lots of water
Love this trail, have done it many times. Be sure and go all the way to the top.
8.8 miles, started on GSL to lighthouse then back through paseo Del rio. Lots of great people out there.
Fun easy walk. The capital Dome climb is another story
Loved the scenery. A really nice morning hike. The only complaint I would have is that the trail gets a little lost right at the base of the lighthouse. Two other unofficial trails lead from that area and there are no markings saying that those are not the actual trail. Definitely take the route on the left.
This is a very strong hike for the state of Texas, so far about as good as it gets. The trail requires you to bring plenty of water since there is no water along the trail.
The lighthouse rock formation is what really makes this one worth the hike. The hike itself is pretty straight forward and sometimes feels like a freeway because of the trails popularity.
Plan on spending some time out at the lighthouse just taking in the beauty of the formation and surrounding area.
